Kalavision Song Contest - Semi Final 1 Voting Period Deadline Fri 10 Jul 2100 BST

I hope we'll be seeing the Kalavision intro sequence at some point, maybe at the final :D
 
Indie's late night rewatch:

01 CHILE - Meh. It's okay i guess. Not actively offensive.
02 SLOVAKIA - What the fuck is that minute long intro? What even is this? And people call Radiohead depressing. Can i give MINUS POINTS?
03 AUSTRIA - Trashy 90s Europop? No thanks.
04 JAMAICA - This may be the first time i've been introduced to Grace Jones. Probably the last.
05 JAPAN - It's alright, i guess. Might get a few points.
06 UKRAINE - Apparently this kind of shit transends international boundaries and can be found everywhere.
07 MEXICO - See previous.
08 SAN MARINO - Getting rather bored of these LONG SILENT INTROS NOW. I rate this somewhere between bad and below average. Which means it's on the scoreboard for now.
09 LIECHTENSTEIN - Yeah okay. When you skip through and actually find the SONG it's okay.
10 COLOMBIA - Well i expected a bit more from the BONGO HOP
11 FINLAND - The first 40 seconds almost make me think i was getting some Finnish metal. SUCH DISAPPOINT
12 SOUTH KOREA - It's some K-Pop. Hi, Diddy trying to mask his trail.
13 LUXEMBOURG - I don't necessarily like giving things points on the strength of the video but i probably will.
14 YEMEN - It's alright i guess. Not what you'd expect, and i like that.
15 FRANCE - It's a bit like if A-ha were French and worse.
16 PERU - This is an equal mix of terrible and terrible, yet QUIERO VIVIR EN LA CIUDAD
17 SWEDEN - I like her claws. Note to self that i could revisit this one if i'm struggling for things to give points out
18 ESTONIA - Where's the snooze button?
19 TURKEY - A fine reminder that this has to end somewhere.
 
I’ve listened to the list but there are only 2 I don’t actively dislike so I’m not sure I can vote. Well done everyone.
 
Chile – Pastora’s daughter delivers a fun song with an enjoyable, catchy chorus. Sadly, this is a music contest on Moopy, so all of the above will be about as welcome as Ian Huntley at a Christening.

Slovakia – Fascination short film in which Aubrey Plaza develops the mutant power to expel quality street wrappers from her face and falls in love with some linen in a forest. The incidental music was dull and immediately forgettable, so you could completely tune it out.

Austria – Dance Rate evacuee. Fucking brilliant.

Jamaica – A Moai head gained sentience, stuck on her most ornate duffel-cape and headed into the world to perform a one note cover of a famous song, remembering to sing half of it in English so as to better ignore the brief.

Japan – Japan delivering the goods once again. I kind of wish I’d known about this one prior to dance rate.

Ukraine – This really picked up when the male vocals came in, which is the first time that sentence has ever been said on Moopy. The woman singer, fresh from her residency at Jabba's Palace, lets it down.

Mexico – Everyone in this video is a cunt, especially the bloke who looks like the female vocalist from a late 80s acid house song. Song’s really not much of anything.

San Marino – Pound shop Despacito. Obviously this is one of my front runners.

Liechtenstein – Quite good, this. Bit dirty. Goes on a bit, but worthy of points.

Colombia – Fucking Hell, this is boring.

Finland – Messy, but undeniably great fun. I’m hoping for the best with this, but expecting it to get thoroughly Moopied.

South Korea – Amber Alert ft. Jay-Elle Bate now, performing a live action tribute to the Caramella Girls. Doesn’t quite deliver on its initial promise, but the 8-bit sound effects win it some good karma.

Luxembourg – Moopy-by-numbers. This will come top ten despite nobody being able to remember how it goes. Mint video, mind.

Yemen – Actually alright. Doesn’t make any particular waves, but good enough while it’s on.

France – It’s just an 80s song, but in foreign. Nothing thrilling about it.

Peru – No. NO. Fuck off. I swear to Christ, if this gets to the final, let alone the top ten, as I suspect it might, then there’s literally no point holding these contests anymore.

Sweden – Bravely defying the stereotype that all Swedish people are attractive, this one isn’t actually as bad as I thought it was on first listen. I still don’t think it’s good. She wants to cut her nails – when she can’t have a wank without giving herself an appendectomy, they’re too long.

Estonia – I preferred her when she was inviting me up her Rockerfeller Street. I mean, it’s okay, and it might even get a point out of me. Not like there’s much competition.

Turkey – Oh THANK FUCK for this. Proper trampy and basic, I love it.

I honestly haven't enjoyed a Mopsy Song edition as much as this one. In fact I have barely enjoyed them at all. Maybe the English language was a mistake. Also loving the gay bait videos.

Special shoutouts to Slovakia and Luxembourg. The first one is alternative/moody done right and the latter has a bit of Tove Lo to it.

I think I've got my 10. I've upgraded one or two of the songs on second listen, but overall I think its a fairly strong semi.

Most of my notes just say "meh". Alongside "trash" and "boring scissor bitch". Now I have to decide which last three "meh"s to keep :gross:
