oh. I guess I liked his schtick (white hair, black glasses) but as a person seemed pretty vile. one of my friends, who is a model, got hit on by Karly but he rejected his advances, THANK GOD

Hardly the SAME. Karl Lagerfeld was a visionary, but for decades he was one of the people who made the fashion industry so problematic. For years he would stubbornly use only the skinniest of models because the clothes would "drape" better, despite efforts to curb the industry from supporting underage and underweight girls. His beauty-elite rhetoric was awful. There's a difference between being a cunt and being a problem.

whilst I agree and I'm not defending him cause I also did come accross some terrible (but funny) statements he would make about short people, women, sweatpants, countries, etc; but some friends and people I know couldn't care less if he was problematic, they would just see his t-shirts with nice graphics on nice racks inside NICE shops and would shell out a stupid amount of money for them and that's what I meant with the Mariah example.

Mariah isn't problematic. She's just ridiculous. And at the end of the day she's more or less harmless. Karl Lagerfeld was in a position to really influence and change how the industry treated weight and age, and he chose to keep it elitist and harmful. And I firmly that he retained those views.

I also never liked the way he'd churn out the same collection season after season (even though they were all gorgeous and harnessed the most loyal client-base in history), but spend millions putting a up a flashy set to make it look like it was 'unique'.

I would also like to add he did nothing of the sort in “churning out the same collection season after season”. His runway shows were always showstopping. He brought Chanel back from the dead in the 80’s, and raised Fendi’s profile nought to a million.

There IS no similarity between the two people. It's the SITUATION they're in that's the same. Both people face having their artistic legacy tarnished because of their personal lives/habits. My back isn't "up", it was just a strange question.

Yes, that's what I mean though. His SHOWS were a spectacle. But the clothes themselves were always the same. I understand that it's to create hype and draw in crowds. But it always seemed a but pretentious to me. Just my personal opinion.

I don’t see how Lagerfeld is going to get his legacy tarnished at all? Yes, he may not have been to your taste, but unless people are now going to come out of the woodwork with horror stories now he is dead I think everything is already OUT THERE. Yes obviously his situation is nowhere near as dire, or even as controversial, as R Kelly, but those who follow the industry are happy not to support his work. Whereas R Kelly's situation is much more well-known

Yes! Online platforms, like forums or social media (kinda like us who follow music or lifestyle or whatever), who are also consumers of fashion/cosmetics/accessories/etc do not buy from Chanel because they're aware of what he's stood for. Not a very complex concept.

Who said anything about a boycott? It's just a personal choice. A personal stand. It's not about what the person stands for. The goal isn't always to bring a business down.

No. You're wrong. A boycott is an ORGANIZED ACTION to get OTHERS to do the same. If I decided to stop buying from Amazon tomorrow because of whatever reason I found unethical, that doesn't mean I'm boycotting it. If I went around trying to get OTHERS to stop buying from it THEN is I'd boycotting.
