Katy Perry - Daisies (1 Viewer)

how mamy Hallmark cards did she go through to write those verses? omg is motherhood REALLY changing her?

it's a cute moment which I don't think I will be revisiting from time to time, sort of like when Britney released Someday (I Will Understand) but then she dumped the baby somewhere and went all slutty again.

The video is like a maternity wear commercial. It's just shots of her alien belly.

It's KATY PERRY :D she's ALWAYS written EXACTLY this way!

Anyone expecting her to reinvent the wheel or even herself in 2020 is deluded. She's found what she does and she does it well. This is a really solid pop song.

On first listen this is just some bland tat from a multi-millionaire about how hard done by they are? NO THANKS KATY

Just re-release Never Really Over, it's not as if enough people heard it FIRST TIME AROUND

what would you have her shoot, on lockdown, heavily pregnant, if not this?!

Why are you asking me? I'm not her creative director. There are a million other ways to be more creative than standing in a garden with the camera focusing on her maternity dress.

well done for COMPLETELY missing the message of the song!

It's ok but on first listen no more a lead single than Hawaii. Was expecting a bit more

Her lyrics have ALWAYS been the worst of the worst in terms of the overused cliches and general cringe factor (“do you ever feel like a plastic bag” anyone?) but her best moments have some sort of memorable pop melody or hook... this is like track #14 fun for Indonesia type of dreck. I have no problem with her trying to create some sort of moment out of her pregnancy but this is not it and not the appropriate song to launch the album.

I think she's just really bad at doing anything that's not SAFE. I don't find anything about her that's even slightly controversial or 'edgy', which could lend itself to a more specialized sound.

I'm just wondering what happened to her MELODIES.

what downfall :D like all the biggest popstars she had an imperial era and couldn't sustain it. Bitch still got like five hits out of Prism! :disco:

you're a bunch of EVIL OLD QUEENS not far removed from our Cilla herself and I won't STAND for this slander of lovely Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson Bloom anymore!

what downfall :D
Are you serious? The Witness era was a massive flop and I don't just mean album sales/streaming but her tour dates also didn't sell very well.

I'd be the last person to write a pop star off but let's face it, we're now what? 2-3 singles into her new 'era' and nothing is sticking.

sorry but the likes of Unconditionally, Birthday ( :zombie: ), This is how we do & Rise were hardly imperial! Like Suedey says, we don't want to write her out but girl has been on a constant struggle she even shoehorned herself into a Calvin Harris track a few years ago. Relevancy is a bitch, ask both Justins :eyes:

She still felt like a front runner during the course of the Prism era. "Roar" and "Dark Horse" were massive enough even if the other three singles underperformed. The bottom line is that she took too much time off between Prism and Witness, and when she came back, she tried to overcompensate (haircut "reinvention", that dreadful webcast, the horrible "comedy" videos) and people didn't bother even though the singles were generally strong.

Now she's released three or four mediocre singles and radio/the public have moved on. I don't think she has the talent, intrigue, or underdog quality, that has allowed Gaga to make a resurgence. I think she is better off making money on American Idol, doing a Vegas residency and the occasional high profile pop collab instead of trying to make this album or "Daisies" happen.

I'm not here for the Katy Perry vs Lady Gaga comparison.

Why are we even comparing them in woke 2020 because they happen to have vaginas? They couldn't be more different as far as I am concerned...

Isn't this the 5th single this era... bury it. She got lucky with a few good tracks and made a little go a very long way. Thank you next.

This is nice if bland. You've sort of forgotten it by the time it's finished, but it's got the same uplifting vibe as Firework, so I think it'll probably do really well for her.

She is a truly uninspired lyricist though. Please Katy, you can't just sew fortune cookies together - let someone else take over for a bit.

They both had a commercial decline of some sort in 2014-2017 but Gaga rebounded - Perry didn't. Lazy comparison or NOT, I find their trajectories interesting.

Well, Katy's biggest 3 Witness singles have 927m total Spotify streams. Joanne's 3 biggest have 674m. Katy got about 2.5 "hits" that era while Gaga got 1.5, at a push. To say Gaga's career rebounded and Katy's didn't isn't quite straight.

Katy's last "lead" single (Never Really Over) got 362m streams and counting - it will be as big as Chained to the Rhythm ultimately. Stupid Love is stuck at 105m, will probably never double that figure. Katy continues to accumulate massive streams for older songs (Dark Horse has 673m for instance), while Gaga's streaming numbers, Shallow aside, are less impressive (she has zero other songs on 500m+). So to write Katy off as unable to get hits while Gaga is still supposedly some commercial force feels a little... off.

Neither artist is at their peak, both have extremely solid careers for being 12 years deep. Both have been cultural touchpoints. Both have played killer Super Bowl sets. They're definitely the two most comparable popstars of their generation and their career trajectories are actually surprisingly in sync.

Birthday ( :zombie: )
I have infinite love for this song.

TOP 10 KATY TIME

01 Last Friday Night (TGIF)
02 Bon Appetit
03 Birthday
04 Thinking of You
05 Roar
06 Never Really Over
07 Ghost
08 Walking On Air
09 Chained to the Rhythm
10 Teenage Dream

Katy got about 2.5 "hits" that era

On what planet? :D

"Chained to Rhythm" was a moderate success and then it all went tits up. I'm not saying Joanne was a success compared to Witness (it was but that's not the point), but rather "Shallow" and "Stupid Love" have shown there is still an appetite. Didn't the last KP single not even chart on the Hot 100?

Has Stupid Love shown there's still an appetite? It's two months old and utterly dead in the water. It entered high one week then fell off hard.

But I DIGRESS

Here is a KP top 10:

1. Dark Horse
2. Roar
3. Teenage Dream
4. The One That Got Away
5. Legendary Lovers
6. Feels
7. Walking on Air
8. Hot N' Cold
9. Part of Me
10. Tsunami

Off the top of my head

It debuted #5 and fell pretty quickly because they stopped pushing it and the album due to COVID. I think it showed there is plenty of goodwill left after the great year she had in 2019.

Lady Gaga vs Katy Perry is as TIRESOME as Britney vs Christina (perhaps in their prime) but the narratives are so similar.

One had a string of huge hit singles/albums and starred in iconic movies :eyes: while the other has enjoyed commercial success in different points of her life and now rests peacefully in a chair at some reality TV singing contest. QUEENS :disco:

Walking On Air is the living tits. It's gay culture. It's faggotry. :disco:

1. Teenage dream
2. Part of me
3. Wide awake
4. Dark horse
5. Roar
6. Roulette
7. Tsunami
8. Waking up in Vegas
9. Legendary lovers
10. E.T. / Not like the movies :shy: (depends on my mood)

Special mention for Peacock :zombie: :D , Hot´N´Cold, Walking n air and Use Your Love, they still go OFF. Never was a fan of Firework, Rise or any of her "aspirational" singles.
