Katy Perry - Daisies

When she screeched daisies, DAISIES, DAISIES!!! at me. What's all that about?

Exactly. For Adam Levine to have a hit on pop radio with a perfectly functional but entirely derivative Maroon 5 song is almost a given. A woman can achieve the same with perhaps the comeback song of her career if she's very lucky, or scrape a top ten for perhaps the last time. But it's way harder for women.

It's also why Madonna has been so heavily scrutinised at every turn post 2001 - people are waiting for an older woman to fall, or have a couple of shit singles in a row, or embarrass herself, or swing and miss, so that they can drop her in the bin.

Katy at 35 can put out two or three mediocre singles and suddenly she's being written off (despite having really quite a sizeable hit with an excellent song just one year ago) cos people see her age and accept that she's done now. It's kinda fucked up! Well done for engaging in it though @KindaCool!

Katy is definitely experiencing an uphill battle that i think, in part, is due to her age. That's not to say she will never chart top 40 again, but it isn't so black and white. There's a spectrum, but you are correct that generally women have it much harder at a certain age.

I think what has made Pink sustain a strong career into her late 30s and now 40s is that she welcomed an older audience years ago with many of her singles excelling at adult contemporary radio - a format where artists like Britney have never been accepted. Katy is pivoting in this direction a bit with "Daisies" but unfortunately the song is very weak. And I don't get the "What About Us" comparison either. That song spent nearly six months on the American Hot 100 and peaked right outside the top ten (#3 in the UK). I guess I'll see what "Daisies" does but I suspect it will drop off the public's radar as quickly as the last few singles.

Isn't Gaga about 34? I know ROM will benefit by having Ariana on it and she's "only" 27 but Stupid Love and Shallow debunked that.
Minaj was able to shoehorn herself in one of the BIGGEST songs of the year (at least in the US)
Lizzo just had an amazing 2019 and she's 32.
I don't think radio will be turning their backs soon on Taylor who just turned 30 or Rihanna who's 32 but they will always have streams to fall back on.
kind of OTT currently I see Gwen Stefani has been lingering in what seems an eternity in Billboard's Top 30 with some country song

Maybe Katy needs to release a good song next perhaps? and Record Executives need to pump out another Billie Eilish soon cause the current pop crop just seemes to get older by the minute
I think 35 is usually the age radio starts to write female artists off (at least in America)... it will be interesting to see how the Rihanna/Taylor Swift generation fare in a few years.

It's probably the late night Babycham talking but Marc Stout may have revived a dying weed.

I'm not sure when I became a KP stan. Once she started losing steam sure - the curse is real. But it feels good. :disco:

Medley of Daisies and Firework for Youtube's graduating class of 2020 special. she sounds great and she's GLOWING

Gaga hasn't bothered with a single performance but Katy is out here hustling while about to pop :disco:

Daisies dropped to 70 something on the Hot 100 but rebounded this week to roughly #58. Steadily adding a good number of streams each day. I still predict a slow burn smash :disco: and is if to rally the gays, a nice glittery banger of a remix just dropped from Oliver Heldens

her heavy pregnancy promo hustle is impressive.

Isn’t Katy Perry just FABULOUS for a throwback these days?

I screamed. The indecency of it all. Calling the woman whose first Imperial Era lasted a decade (not even mentioning her second one) a "throwback", when she herself was relevant for like 4 years. I sometimes listen to the Teenage Dream singles a bit like I listen to Steps. Nice bops, beautiful bops.

@Jark I'm now sort of on board with this

BUT HUN she is absolutely auto tuned to an INCH of her life in that perf

Oh. A comedy video that interpolates "I Kissed a Girl" and "Peacock". :zombie:

Oh come on it's definitely not even the worst of THIS ERA :D

Never Worn White, Small Talk and Hey Hey Hey are all worse than Daisies (DAISIES! DAYZAYS!!!!!), although it is very lazily written and repetitive.

Reading the lyrics is like looking at the list of left-over metaphors that she couldn't fit into Roar (ROAR! ROOOAR!!!!!).

Took those sticks and stones
Showed 'em I could build a house :square:
