Kylie - Disco (album 15)

I mean, comparing this album to Jessie Ware's feels... reductive.

Disco is a cute throwaway popsicle from the corner shop; What's Your Pleasure is a sumptuous mille-feuilles.
I agree.

Not being shady and maybe I need more time with it but I'm not really feeling this album... (yet)

My early rank:

Say Something
Dance Floor Darling
Real Groove
Miss A Thing

Supernova
Last Chance
Celebrate You
I Love It

Magic
Where Does the DJ Go?
Monday Blues
Unstoppable

Where Does The DJ Go? Has the potential to grow though.

I'd bump Magic up a bit but otherwise I am pretty much in agreement with this ranking after a couple of listens. Unstoppable is an early weak link. The deluxe ones haven't taken hold yet but they have had only one play.

Dancefloor Darling is SO CRJ and Miss A Thing and Real Groove are a more relaxed groove-based (well...) pairing before the disco frivolities really kick in. The album is very much PARTY DISCO nearly all the way and think that it could probably do with a bit of midtempo synthy disco that maybe ticks the sad banger box (and keeps Say Something company on the fringes). I'm enjoying the album though, sure it will be getting plenty of spins.

The Chromeo vocoder is all over the place, it pops up everywhere. SOMEBODY found a button they liked.

My signed CD is also rather bashed up. The flimsy sleeve did not fare well in Amazon's skimpy card packaging and in the uncaring hand of the delivery driver who wedged it into my letterbox.

The deluxe book CD from her store is thankfully intact. The navy font doesn't really pop compared to the white though.

It's more listenable than Madame X, I'll say that much. But that album was more conceptually interesting (although less well executed).

Still haven’t heard it, not sure I’m going to bother tonight. This is all very strange for me who usually would be balls deep in it by now.

I bought a bottle of her Sauvignon Blanc tonight though for no apparent reason. I’m quite sure it’ll be shit.

I don't know if I will ever have the energy or the will to listen to Madame X again. Even God Control seems vaguely like a punishment from this distance.

I feel the album may have been a marginally better investment.

Just had an email saying mine has been dispatched

And I see it's already going for £100 with bids on ebay. Surprised, given it took a few days to sell out. 4000 didn't seem THAT limited.

I’m finding her voice unlistenable to on Miss A Thing and almost unlistenable on Rare Groove and a few others. I’ve never had that with her before.

I mean we could all go through all HAND WRINGING like SOME QUEENS who want the world from Kylie (and compare her to other woman - the misogyny jumped out!) and demand another Impossible Princess - NEWSFLASH, it’s overrated AF - but we just need to accept, and be happy, that this is the kind of product that we’re only ever going to get. We’re at a point where she’ll never change the world but it’s consistent, she’s comfortable and she brings literal joy. She’s got that skill of giving us the occasional left field choice whilst still appealing to the locals. Not many people have that.

She has devoted her life to US GAYS. I just love her :emoji_sob:

Trembling at this post :disco:

I used to be the first person around here to criticise her but I have totally accepted that she just wants to make music that makes her happy and spark a little joy in the hearts of those who will have her.

Genuinely read this entire post front to back thinking it was an Eddie original and then saw your avatar. :D is this a SPONSORED POST or what?

Eddie, take a break from her royal highness and come join us for Jark.FM in the lounge!

MAGIC
MISS A THING
REAL GROOVE

Are a fantastic opening trio but...

Monday Blues is a piece of shit. Fuck off Golden era B-side material.

Didn’t you proclaim it the second coming at the time or am I inventing that?

I Was going to reply to them but chose not to. The albums are literally NOTHING alike and we wouldn't have this conversation if it was Bruce Springsteen Letter to You vs Neil Young's new album or something. But we still do on Moopy in 2020. It's stupid.

ANYWAY

I'm on SAY SOMETHING now in my first drunken proper listen party and yes it's still an 11/10

Anything is possible!

I think I loved it for a few days but it was more out of sheer willpower than anything else. But Suedey is right, comparing this with Madame X is some hot gay madness :D
