THE UPTEMPO VERSION!

13 (!) years on and I still can't comprehend how a song this good, which is just hooks on hooks on hooks and crystallises everything great about Kylie Minogue into 3 minutes and 30 seconds, was not (i) the lead single from her comeback album or (ii) ever released at all and (iii) has since been completely forgotten.

Obviously it's an emotional song for her, but the ballad version moreso and that got loads of exposure. Seriously, how many popstars have huge obvious #1s like this in the vault and just sit on them forever? Also, everything Kylie has ever made has leaked at some point. But not this. All of which somehow adds up to make it the holy grail.

Yes, it's absolutely UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC and she should just leak it herself this week as a lockdown treat imo

Watching it again, that slow walk down the catwalk for the first chorus... actual goddess :disco:

Is there any reason known why it was never released? I men it's such an obvious cancer-comeback song for Kylie, ESPECIALLY over 2 Hearts.

Was it too tonally similar to I Believe In You maybe (not that THAT stopped her with Come Into My World and Wow :eyes: ) or was there some sort of SQUABBLE with Jake Shears?

I mean, with Pet Shop Boys putting tracks out like 'Dreamland', this could still totally lead a Kylie disco album...it's a pretty timeless sound.

She claimed she felt it was from a different era and hinted she meant one with bad memories (cancer). It was two years "out there" by the time of "X" of course.

I don't think it should have been the lead single from "X"- that should have been "The One" or, had it not leaked, "In My Arms", but it should have been included on there and been considered for a single, absolutely. I've had this discussion TIME AND AGAIN, but I would have gone:

The One
In My Arms (First two swapped round if "In My Arms" hadn't leaked)
Wow
White Diamond
Speakerphone (or Like A Drug at a push)

I could leave out "Wow" in fairness, but its popularity suggests it should have been a single.

Plus, I seemingly had an idea for "White Diamond" at the time: https://www.moopy.co.uk/threads/could-white-diamond-save-x.52696/

Agreed that The One was a bit more obvious as a lead single, but White Diamond is right up there.

Wasn't she meant to have tried reworking it for Aphrodite?

I'm not over her. I'm primarily just frustrated that moments of brilliance are peppered with moments of mediocrity and clueless direction. I haven't got the patience to put up with that forever.

Oh, it turns out I HAVE :disco:

I think you may be underestimating The One....

Nothing is going to turn this project around now, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was a bigger hit than IMA.

*Watches it go in at #27*

VoRbinger of doom struck again

Every Kylie album campaign between the flawlessly executed ones for Fever and Golden really was a COMPLETE dog's dinner, wasn't it?

I would have liked this AND a properly finished "Lose Control" on a revised X.

Who merged these threads? The title now makes NO SENSE AT ALL...

There's a lot of WEIRD MEDDLING going on from mods merging threads for no apparent reason nowadays. I didn't know we were only allowed ONE THREAD per song - good job we've all been observing that rule all this time!

I still have old SILD on Facebook. He seems HAPPY ENOUGH.

But yes, overmodding is FUCKING AWFUL. And it smacks of NEW MODERATORS TRYING TOO HARD.

What topics were merged? We don't merge old ones with new ones unless it's for very specific reasons.

It appears so. I can add a standard 10-0 poll or replicate the set of options from the old thread if you like, but everyone will have to vote again regardless.

(I did not do the splitting, BTW)
I assumed it wasn't you because you liked my VoRbinger post many hours before it happened - so if you were going to do it, you'd have done so then. And it has never struck me as your modding style, anyway.

As I said, I haven't noticed it happen elsewhere, but Jark seems to have done. So possibly there are other threads that nobody has noticed.

Can you guys discuss this in the mod forum, please? We don't need overmodding here, and this is only a slight example of the issues it can cause with posts/threads not making sense, polls in the wrong place. I really don't want to go back to the issue with Sild many years ago again.

I'm a firm believer that for the majority of the time, good modding is invisible.

Back to White Diamond though, it's adorable. The ballad version has always been my favourite in lieu of a proper studio version of the disco tits version. It was a key part of the soundtrack to the Fire Island Summer of 2008 :disco:

I assume her dislike is nothing to do with Jake Shears as she did Glastonbury with them long after this.

I know the FANZ always know better :eyes: but it's hard to argue that Kylie + Team didn't miss multiple own goals in those 15 odd years :D

Luckily they hit the jackpot just as often and stuff like the Anti Tour is perfectly executed fan service of the highest order.

I find it PRETTY FUNNY that Kala was so ENRAGED by me editing a post for a joke once when a week into the job he’s edited three ENTIRE THREADS and locked topics!

I do think X/2 Hearts were the absolute biggest missteps, though. That she didn't bag a HUGE number one (and then a much bigger album) off the back of her cancer comeback is crazy.

Could you? Better than nothing I SUPPOSE although I am a bit MIFFED to have done away with the old poll

This thread wasn't even in The Classics before, I made it in Kylie's forum. IS Kala responsible? I'm a strong believer that THE PUNISHMENT must fit THE CRIME!

I can't think of a scenario where 2 Hearts would ever have made sense, but in the circumstances it was completely baffling.

I guess decisions were driven but an express desire not to acknowledge her illness.

2 Hearts was the biggest misstep of her CAREER, I'd say. What I don't fathom is that it was SO out of sync with the rest of the album- it wasn't representative in the slightest and it wasn't like it was such a behemoth of a song that they couldn't leave it out (say, like, "The Promise" wasn't representative of "Out of Control").

I think the issue was the leak. "Losing" what would have basically made up the majority of the album a good while before it was released was a DISASTER and they had to quickly come up with a solution- let's not forget that gave us "The One", but then it completely screwed up their release strategy. If, as rumoured, "In My Arms" was the lead in a world where it hadn't leaked, I still think things might have been different. You only have to see how well that did on the continent to see it was a "hit", even if it didn't manage to do THAT much here.

I still adore "X", though I entirely agree it was scattershot. A more cohesive approach would have given a much better album. I just don't understand who thought "HEY, ALL I SEE IS JUST WHAT THIS ALBUM NEEDS!"...

I'm not sure I agree. I think that's why "White Diamond" wasn't chosen, absolutely, but nothing on the album references her illness bar "No More Rain" and there were PLENTY of other songs to choose from before you get to that as lead single.

:D it always baffled me that she says FOR the scissor sisters
