I definitely saw Sinead defending her when Boy George tried to slag her off when they were both on a show together which I’m pretty sure was The Word.

I assumed Adeva was pushing 40 when she was having hits not 25. It’s prompted me to play her best of though, she had some cracking remixes.

I actually think Adeva's version of Respect is on par with Aretha's!

I was thinking the very same thing. It's why, for me anyway, one of her better performances was in Who's That Girl?, as she's definitely better doing comedic stuff.
 
Kylie was prime bait and an easy target for practically anyone and everyone in the way I have never seen with another commercial pop act before or since. She was getting it with Virgin Radio in the late 90s (when you'd have thought they'd have moved on to someone else by then) and then by the Gallagher brothers in the Noughties.

Hell even MUTYA had a go just a couple of years ago. What is it about her that makes people think she is fair game for a mauling? She is the least threatening pop star ever. Or is that it...the fact that she is unlikely to fight back?
 
It still pisses me off as much as it used to and frankly I'm old enough to know better.

I think you hit the nail on the head in that she’s an easy target because she’s not going to bite back.
 
I just don't understand it when people say "She can't sing." I mean she absolutely can sing. Whether you like her voice or not is entirely up to you, but "can't sing" is just embarrassing nonsense.
 
I've never seen Britney, Katy Perry or Sabrina (to use three random examples) getting the same level of vitriol.
 
Fuck those bitches. She also has a huge amount of industry love, from all corners. Chris Martin, Nick Cave, Tove Lo, Scissor Sisters, Madonna, Dua Lipa, Rina Sawayama, Pet Shop Boys... and that's just a few.

It's not really about the music though is it? There's no attempt to invalidate what she does for a living.
 
I thought this was great but that it (necessarily) fell in the no-man's land between being for the fans and for the public. During all the cancer chat I was like YES BUT TELL US ABOUT MAKING X AND THE COMEBACK SINGLE BEING BOTCHED COZ IN MY ARMS LEAKED AND THEN GUEST STARRING IN DOCTOR WHO AS ATRID PETH AND THEN SHOOTING A VIDEO FOR ALL I SEE TO TRY AND CRACK AMERICA AND ALSO WHY DID YOU HATE THE ONE SO MUCH KYLIE AND IF WE CAN NOW MOVE ON TO APHRODITE WHY ON EARTH RELEASE BETTER THAN TODAY AS A SINGLE AND PERFORM IT ON THE X FACTOR AND ALSO WHY DID YOU REJECT THE NERINA PALLOT PUT YOUR HANDS UP WHEN IT'S BETTER THAN THE ONE YOU KEPT etc etc.

I'd have swapped 80% of the Michael Hutchence chat for some chat about Confide In Me and the Kylie Minogue and Impossible Princess albums. But obvs a lot of the people watching wouldn't care.

I'd love a proper for-the-fans podcast where she sits down and goes through every album era in minute detail and we'd all live for it. Even Eddie!

Re: the doc itself, I agree about how badly Jason came across, both today and in that archive clip of him slagging her indie era off. I'd have gone into a bathroom with anyone to get away from him too.

And gays across the land should smash all jars of Lloyd Grossman sauces in their local Tesco in protest at his behaviour. Similar short shrift to be given to Michael Parkinson's grave and Matthew Wright as well please. Awful fucking men.
 
I also think a lot of the anti-Kylie venom stemmed from Stock Aitken Waterman being hated in the industry and her being the poster girl for them, as well as being seen as a soap actress, made her the prime target. It took her a long time to shake the snobbery.
 
Yes, a lot of it was a huge amount of pop music snobbery laced with misogyny.

The question shouldn't be why other female stars weren't getting the abuse, but why men with guitars weren't.

I was merely trying to surmise why. There is still a snideness that exists with Kylie that is absent in the reaction to every other female popstar (if we are suggesting this is about misogyny). She gets it from OTHER female singers too.
 
Also Pete Waterman didn’t help her back in the day saying things like she’d sit in reception for an hour and they’d wrote her songs in 40 minutes and she’d take about an hour to sing and record it and leave. It made her sound very disposable and ineffectual.

Because she was part of The Hit Factory that did treat its acts as products and therefore people treated them like it as well. I don't think it was absent in the reactions to every other female pop star at all.

And I don't think she still gets it to any significant degree, either.
 
Kylie has suffered a lot of abuse, but not on the same level as Madonna has.
 
I saw a post on twitter only today marvelling at how someone as talentless as Madonna could make an album as good as Ray Of Light.
