Must have missed the part where I said they did. Also must have missed the part where I said it wasn't a big deal. I pointed out pop acts had played festivals before, much like Kylie herself had did. Good grief :manson:
 
Oh sorb you know I love you but her concern was specifically about HEADLINING Glastonbury not just playing any run of the mill festival.

Kylie might seem beyond reproach now (though I'd argue that's not strictly true) but it certainly wasn't the case in 2005.
 
I enjoyed it a lot but, like everyone else, I wish it had been longer as it felt like it was a much too big jump in the later years. I cried a fair bit in episode 3 at lots of things- but particularly the Showgirl Homecoming bit. I remember that concert so clearly and just crying. The bit where she went up on the disco tiered cake and cried out “did you believe I’d let you down?” at a crowd of weeping homosexuals will remain etched in my memory forever. I wish they’d made more of the first night back when the crowd wouldn’t let the music start for 10 minutes or whatever it was because the ovation was so strong.

She obviously remains very guarded- I would have liked to have heard more about the X debacle, as @Finn said, but also some of those relationships, though I admit that was a) unlikely and b) intrusive.

I was overjoyed to see an in depth appreciation and behind the scenes footage of Your Disco Needs You, though. Showed her vocals off beautifully.

What I didn’t need was to be reminded of the horror of Xmas…in June. I actually shuddered.
 
Also, Pete Waterman is an old man who is always going to hyperbole his life away, but he isn’t THAT wrong about the Rick Astley thing, though the date is slightly the issue. He was HUGE in late 87/88 - four US top tens and two number ones there, and that album sold 15 million copies Wikipedia tells me. Other than Jackson and Whitney, I can’t think off the top of my head who would have done the same in that same period. Never Gonna Give You Up must have been close to the biggest single of that period worldwide? Certainly the biggest retrospectively too.
 
The only other relationship of note which was not referred to was with Stephane Sednaoui. He had a pretty big influence on her and they still remain friends to this day.

The rest of them - nah. I could think of nothing worse than giving that cretin Joshua Sasse any air of publicity for example.
 
The only good thing about Sasse is that he brought her to Bristol when he was filming something here. I was AGOG when I saw a photo of her in the local press.

Mind you, I got even more necessary when I was staying with a friend who was working for the RSC in Stratford Upon Avon when she said that Kylie stayed right next door when she was seeing Rupert Penry-Jones.

I find the timeline of that supposed relationship a bit dubious. Wasn't she going out with that other love rat James Gooding at the time?

Apparently they dated in 1999. Can NO ONE TELL THE TRUTH NOW? Rupert is a fibber - she didn't record Can't Get You Out Of Me Head until late 2000/early 2001.
 
Came across this interview from 1991 which I don't think I had ever seen before. She looks so beautiful - it would have been just before the Rhythm Of Love tour in Australia and Asia that year.



Anyway this really was at the cusp of her becoming far more guarded in interviews - she even addresses it here. Again some awful questions!

I've read and heard a fair bit of criticism about Nick in this - particularly from millennials arguing that he should not be taking credit for Kylie's successful return to pop.

I disagree. I DO think he was one of the catalysts and as far as his contribution to the Netflix documentary goes, of the few talking heads we get he is the one that comes out with the best sound bites - the stuff he says about Kylie is profound, poetic even.

From what I can see Kylie appreciates pushing her limits and people who will help her to do that - hence Nick / M Hutchinson - it’s probably why she is where she is, she’s inquisitive.
 
Those millennials/Gen Zers referred to him as Michael "Hutchinson" (and Nick Cay - "who IS THAT?!") too but yeah I get your point. :D
 
Also I feel terrible for saying this but I think I underestimated Vicky Pattison. She's far more eloquent than I ever gave her credit for (though I never watched Geordie Shore).
 
So I have a lot of thoughts about this but without getting too personal the revelation about the second cancer diagnosis in 2021 was triggering but equally inspiring and one of the reasons I am
back posting. It’s just really hard when you think it’s all good and then it hits you in the face again (and that can be a metaphor for anything). Anyway I’ve been playing the shit out of Story and the rest of her discography but yeah. ❤️

It's still top 10 on Netflix whereas the Rafa doc has come and gone. That surprised me actually.
 
Never saw this when it was out in the cinemas but it's really interesting:



Honestly I find their relationship so fascinating, moreso than ever after the documentary.
 
I hope, if she does end up releasing a rarities album for her 40th anniversary next year that she polishes off her recording of the song Soon (which was written by Nick).
 
Been revisiting some interviews I had either forgotten or not seen through the years.

This one is great from 2014. She's so open and you can tell she's comfortable with the guy (though he comes across as a bit of a letch):

I will pick a couple up over time, but I’m trying not to spend tonnes on vinyls at the moment whilst I book some holidays.

I assume they may do somewhat well and possibly trouble the mid-lower range of the chart?
