Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th)

DOES Padam Padam actually appeal to young people though? Or is that just wishful thinking from us, ageing internet homosexuals who forget how decrepit we are from time to time

Radio 1's meant to be for 15-29 year olds, right. Is that age group actually biting and asking R1 to play it?

(Obvs I hope the answer is YES, but I'm really not sure)
 
The viral element and the fact that it's Top 30 on the official chart would suggest that it HAS to have some crossover appeal to the main streaming audience, which is young people.

So yeah. There's no way of knowing without data from Spotify, but I'd strongly wager she has a MUCH broader audience on this track than she's had for over a decade.
 
Well it’s #44 on Spotify which is higher than about half the radio one playlist and is a very young-leaning music platform, so it’s certainly appealing much more than to just middle aged gays.
 
Radio One is run by a committee that is in a constant state of anxiety about their public broadcaster remit to appeal to a demographic that just fundamentally doesn’t listen to the radio any more.

Playlisting is one thing and if they don't do so, I don't actually have a problem with it. However since the official chart show is broadcast on their station choosing not to play only one of the top 10 songs in a first look when it also happens to be the biggest climber just strikes me as trying to prove a somewhat redundant point.
 
Like @Devil said, they played it once in the chart rundown so if they played it again, would it have really made a difference to their so-called remit?

Especially when they played Harry Styles on his 60th week on the chart. They could have easily played Kylie and skipped that.
 
I just woke up to Padam Padam being played on the radio.

The odd thing is, this was Radio 4. The News Programme was interviewing one of the songwriters about the track’s success.

What’s the significance of this one? I’ve seen it hovering in the lower reaches of the chart for ages. Did it have a Kate Bush/Stranger Things moment somewhere?

It's the weekend effect, no? Most figures go down during weekend (but divas are normally dispoportionately affected by this). I suspect it'll rebound today.

Worse, it was a sped-up version. The fast version is on Spotify by itself which is insane.

I think there's also a video of someone miming to it where they do a sliding move that's impressive/dangerous.

2) Clearly you don't understand the complexities and real world usage of the noun/verb/adjective Padam.
 
I've never used :tisch:and never intend to, regardless of what it's meant to convey. It just looks like it's from the dial up days, hasn't fully loaded, and sets my OCD off.
