Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th)

So I actually like the video now. :o

Sophie Muller's shonky editing somehow works for this song. And as for the lighting, in the post apocalyptic world in which it's set (where somehow condiments in a diner remain looking pristine), it's the last of their worries really.

Don't overthink it too much Edwina

I like the video!

I am with Lou, gave me a buzz yesterday

I think she’s doing well for herself. Her basement Airbnb is big hit with the gays.

I imagine the WINE is raking it in, I am hearing more about that than say, the BEDDING

I can't imagine she'd have just the one fridge-freezer to run.

She puts everything in Dannii's fridge-freezer apparently in Melbourne. Makes economic sense as she's a 1 person household now.

Who is Kylie Minogue? What is her net worth? And why does her wine taste like pish?

this swerves back to that Fever-Slow sound
does it? :D I'm really not hearing that.

those were very sleek, sophisticated pop sounds. Padam... kinda wishes. this is more clubby and made for the Inna gays. if you know you know.

I got a Fever sound for the first time compared to her output since too. Not necessarily the same sound obviously, but that mechanic beat and sound

The song is so absolutely dreamy, layered and hypnotic. Definitely got a frisson de Fever myself too. It's got that effortless confidence too.

I love the video too. Ice Queen Kylie, the minimal choreo, and that setup on top of the car :disco:

this is so fun

she isn't slowing down at all, her energy is infectious

I agree. She hasn't released anything quite so sleek and minimal since 2002/2003. The verses in particular have a darker tone to them which she very occasionally (albeit not enough) dabbles in.

I listened in Dolby Atmos and there is so much more to the production than I initially realised.

I wouldn't be surprised if the American Idol performance combines CGYOOMH with this. They work really well together. I wouldn't mind Slow being thrown in too.

Loved this, I had the clip on repeat this morning was making me smile. Too much time on my hands? :D

Totally agreed.

There is something borderline sinister-sounding about it which only increases the appeal. It does feel like the "missing" link between Slow and CGYOOMH, yet it sits in its own space quite comfortably in 2023.

In terms of Kylie comeback singles I don't love this like I did Say Something or Dancing, but overall I'm a fan. And it's way more interesting than Into The Blue at least.

Early signs make me think this'll be one of her flop eras though? The lead single feels too slutty and basic (:disco:) for the masses, and so far the campaign doesn't feel like it has the more mainstream sell-ability of the last two albums ("Kylie goes country!" "Kylie does disco!"). But that's fine when we, the gays and the girlies, are being fed.

One thing I really do love about it is how it doesn't feel like a retread of anything she's done before, while still feeling like a natural fit for her. And how many other music acts are doing THAT 16 albums in to a 36 year career? :disco:

Isn't that what people said about Can’t Get You Out Of My Head?

Not that I’m suggesting for a second that this can match the towering success of that song but if it manages to gain some crossover traction in the way her other BMG singles haven’t, then I think it will stand the album in good stead.

I don’t think BMG have much interest in hit singles. Obviously they’d happily take one, but they’re much more album/tour/fanbase focused than chasing a #26 Spotify hit that will likely never happen.

If you consider her BMG studio efforts to be “concept albums” (in the loosest definition of that phrase) and technically her last three records would be as such, given that her final Parlophone release was Kylie Christmas, then this is her first album without a theme since Kiss Me Once. :o

I'm not a huge KYLIE QUEEN (genuinely prefer Dannii SUE ME!), but this has to be the best single Kylie has put out in DONKEYS YEARS??
I was going to say since Slow as it seems to be a constant reference in regard to this track, but then I remembered IN MY ARMS so certainly at least since then for me (the boring-ass Golden album remains ROTTING!!)

MORE of this ICY ELECTRO but also PACKAGE HOLIDAY POOL SMASH KYLIE ploise. I've been waiting forever for her to finally capitalise on the Fischerspooner remix of Come Into My World, and this seems like the SUREST SHOT in eons :disco:
