'Judas' is basically a 'Bad Romance' redux and not quite as good, but a slightly subpar 'Bad Romance' redux is still better than most songs.
 
Sitting here thinking about the way I slept on this album at the time because I'd gone off poor brave Gags.

The chorus of Judas is a bit shit tbh but those bombastic verses are so life giving that they make up for it.
 
I would much rather go to Judas than Bad Romance these days. Judas gets an UNFAIRLY bad rap. I think it's clunky and chunky and awks and SO much fun.

The French accent on ze verses. And that FECKING VIDEO! :disco:

every time I think "Judas really lands on the wrong side of MESS", that chorus comes along and POW! it's such a delicious moment of BASIC BOPPERY!

also the video has many incredible lewks (despite being a bit of a mess from an editing pov, which is what happens when you get your CHOREOGRAPHER to direct it).

I can still remember hearing Judas for the first time. We were in San Francisco for my 40th birthday, in a cafe on Chestnut St. I paid to download it from iTunes and it left me pretty cold. I appreciate it more now. But not so much more.

Cannot COMMENT on the EDITING, but the LURKS - OMG THE LURKS! Some of her career's finest. I have done that EXACT eyeliner SEVERAL TIMES.

My first time was the Ellen perf, I think (?) where she was TERRIBLE

But some of the melodies and adlibs on Judas are fucking undeniable.
 
This album is really benefitting from the fact I tend to go either for The Fame Monster or ArtPOP when I listen to Gaga. These songs are sounding almost fresh!

The production on Americano, and especially the thumping drum in the bridge are EVERYTHING!

Americano is fucking sublime! this bitch really sat down to make a MARIACHI ELECTROBANGER about gay marriage on the Mexican border (IS IT ABOUT THAT? in my head it is) and somehow it works. only a popstar at the peak of her powers. phenomenal energy to this song.

and like many a great pop songs it really saves the BEST for LAST...
