Lana Del Rey - Norman F***ing Rockwell (sixth album)

q has named video games song of the decade and lana del rey america's "finest singer-songwriter".

i find it hard not to lol but hey!
has she been hitting the pies or is it just a bad photo?

Lana is a divine goddess whose all-important status as America's finest singer songwriter cannot and must not be denied.

On the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone with Elton John. They interview each other and discuss the ill-fated SNL performances from 2012 among other things.

She is such a troll

"PLAY CINNAMON GIRL"
"I don't know the words" (god forbid she sings any of the songs from NFR on the NFR Tour)
*sings entire song beautifully*

Certified Silver in the UK this week:

UK

75 (68) 10 Norman F*****g Rockwell! (SILVER)

Down 71-86 in the States. It appears they are pushing the title track on UK radio for whatever it’s worth.

Still loving the album - 90 day rate:

07 Norman Fucking Rockwell!
08 Mariner's Apartment Complex
09 Venice Bitch
09 Fuck it I Love You
08 Doin' Time
09 Love Song
11 Cinnamon Girl
09 How to Disappear
10 California
08 The Next Best American Record
03 The Greatest
09 Bartender
10 Happiness is a Butterfly
07 hope is...

As strong as many of the individual songs are, it does feel more disjointed than anything she's done before. That is probably a product of the fact that she was recording it off and on for a year or more. So on the whole, I think I prefer Ultraviolence still and it is neck and neck with L4L but overall very impressed. Can't wait for White Hot Forever 2020.

Lana has been nominated for two Grammy’s - album of the year and song of the year (title track). :)

I like that she hasn’t been nominated for any sub categories - just the top tier categories. And SOTY for one of the few songs not released as a single /instant grat/video in some capacity. Only Lana

She's released a three song Norman Fucking Rockwell video (NFR, Bartender, Happiness is a Butterfly) and announced a SPOKEN WORD ALBUM that she will sell for $1.00 in 2020. The proceeds will go to various Native American causes. The previously announced White Hot Forever is still coming in 2020 apparently on top of that.

I'm DECEASED by all of this

Norman Fucking Rockwell is #1 on Metacritic's aggregate top albums of 2019. Contributing to that is its #1 spot on Pitchfork, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Slant Magazine, etc. Slant also named in the NUMBER THREE best album of the DECADE (the top two were rap albums, but we don't know them) and Born to Die was #18.

She's always gotten the half-hearted critical praise that was unwilling to fully credit her impact or songwriting ability. I'm glad she's finally being seriously recognized.

Can't wait for Lana to put me to sleep like a baby. She really is the queen of this universe and all parallel universes!

I saw and heard Doin' Time for the first time last night and I wasn't bored! Unfortunately judging by the first few tracks and seeing mostly Jack Antonoff in the album credits I suppose Doin' Time is an outlier.

I gave NFR a spin on Sunday having not listened to it end to end since the week of release. It's an end-to-end album, much like "Honeymoon" rather than one you can pick from like "BTD" or "LFL" (Ultraviolet works as both, I think). It's like a Cassavetes film, long shots of a woman's state of mind minus the "fanciness" of "Lust For Life" (insofar as it's unedited and often beatless). As such, it's an album best suited to being sat down with and taken in rather than being jammed into earphones or chopped into commercially viable chunks. It's no wonder the critics loved it; she gave them a lyric sheet with plenty to write about but also with gaps to fill in for themselves.

The trouble with the plans for a quick follow-up and a spoken word album within the next 6-9 months is the potential to dilute this, to have NFR end up as part of an "era" (this happened to "Paradise", especially in those territories like the UK where it wasn't released on its own) but we shall see.

In fact, here are my updated LDR album rankettes 2019/2020:

1. UltraVIOLENCE
2. NFR!
3. Paradise
4. Lust for Life
5. Honeymoon
6. Born to Die

Rebounds quite a bit this week in the UK. Anyone know its sales to date? Is it remotely close to Gold?

UK
32 (77) 17 Norman F*cking Rockwell!

It's 6.99 in HMV and got a lot of publicity in year end charts.

Wasn't she threatening an album of a bunch of those leaked unreleased tracks at one point? That would probably be well received, depending on how she pitched it.

The last few days I've been having this inescapable urge to buy all her albums (again) on vinyl. I've only got the NFR! blue vinyl, but have all the rest on CD. She's such a vinyl queen for me ugh.

A poster on ukmix estimating it broke 80k this week.

Surely she has a great shot at a Brit win which should see it top 100k in due course.

This bitch seems to be cancelling her European dates one after the other...

*waits patiently for the Paris date to be cancelled :) *
