David Arnold - Nobody Does It Better (feat. Aimee Mann)
One of the all-time classic Bond themes, Radiohead is the usual go-to when people talk about cover versions but I've always been quite partial to this sitar-tinged version from David Arnold and Aimee Mann.

Saint Etienne - Tomorrow Never Dies
Another of the tracks submitted during KD LANG-GATE, this is a gorgeous little number, which was eventually included on their Built On Sand fan club album. Pierce Brosnan apparently claimed that this song was “seven times better than Sheryl Crow” :D
 
Very good, but probably a bit understated for a 90s Bond theme.

It feels written-for-purpose. Quite Et-By-Numbers. Nice enough but it ain't "Avenue".
 
As much as I like this, I just can't imagine it as a theme for the film.
 
Radiohead - Spectre
Recorded for the 2015 film of the same name, I don't actually know whether this was in serious contention to be used as the theme or whether it was more of a pitch. Either way, the final film has Sam Smith on theme duties and Radiohead ended up putting this online for fans (I think it was uploaded on Christmas Day, but I could be misremembering).
 
All of the alternative TND themes have been at least interesting, but I think they were right to go with KD Lang.

You're not - it was indeed made available gratis on Xmas Day.

God I hate the Sam Smith theme. Generic mum music love song with no connection to Bond at all. Clearly was in a drawer somewhere and they went with it as he was flavour of the month at the time.

It doesn’t work brilliantly with this song. I’d have loved to see a Bond title sequence in 6/8 time.

Apparently this got the boot because the producers heard that it was a reworked version of an old song Radiohead hadn't been able to finish rather than a brand new tune and took the hump.
 
Glennis Grace - Licence To Kill
I couldn't make this playlist without including my personal favourite Bond theme of them all, Licence To Kill (originally performed by Gladys Knight). Here is Dutch star Glennis Grace (of Eurovision 2005 fame) with a stunning version, performed on Dutch TV in 2015.

I do like this song. It has one of *those* chord changes in it, one of those that just stops you in yr tracks.
 
Remember when poor old Craig Colton did this on X Factor and they hated it :(
