Light Years 25th anniversary vinyl

The only bad thing about Aphrodite for me is that it sounds like it was recorded through a potato and then mastered/mixed on a Nintendo 64. MY GOD, -25 points for Stuart for that. It's jarring how muffled the production sounds on most tracks and how poorly mixed her vocals sound.

Anyway, Kiss Me Once just didn't have the correct tracklisting as there are so many gems. The title track was like an updated Je ne sais pas pourquoi, Feels So Good walks on air, and the lush chills of Sleeping With the Enemy was an unused secret weapon.
 
I got off the bus at X, which aside from some terrific singles was a real let down for me and I didn't really get back on the Kylie bus until Disco. Although I love Dancing off of Golden - it's great. Tension 2 was a little bit taking the piss though so I do hope her next effort is a return to her reasonably still recent excellent form.
 
omg I forgot the KMO title track. that's the best song on the album! what a chorus :disco:

Deserved to be finished with a proper second verse and included on the main tracklist along with this

and her own version of this

But of course her A&R had to pick an inferior Nerina Pallot offering while also green lighting another same titled turd. So, yeah, Aphrodite was indeed (almost cynically) cohesive, yet a worse mess to its predecessor. Course correcting after X was sort of understandable, but they favoured a vibe instead of bringing the best songs available to the table and elevating them with some inspired production.

I agree Aphrodite is cohesive. It just sounds horribly thin and tinny in terms of production as soon as you get past All The Lovers. I'm very much including GOOMW in that.
 
I don't really get why people don't seem to like Body Language. It's got fucking Green Gartside on it. What do you want - blood?

Kiss Me Once title song deserved lead single status. But then mid 2010s was such a strange (aka miserable) time in pop music.

Sweet Music, Obsession, Loving Days... Still Standing! :disco: the Prince-y synth-funk of it all! I think it was a statement of intent for her something close to Impossible Princess. she wanted to take the credit she'd earned with Fever and make the album she'd have loved growing up in the 80s. I must listen tomorrow.

On Fever Tour she was so confident showcasing Impossible Princess deep cuts to the GP. That was such a Madonna ish power move from her. Like, you all came here for the hits but guess what here's my celebrated flops so fuck off and enjoy.

there's some real DIRGE like Put Your Hands Up, Cupid Boy, Too Much and Can't Beat the Feeling that were straining way too hard to be Kylie classics but without any of the effortlessness or joy. but I love all the singles (including Better Than Today), title track, Illusion, Looking For an Angel, Everything is Beautiful...

I don't think the producers (including Stu) did a great job overall with the production or with her voice.

I would've said for a while KMO is the better album and in a way I think it's more imaginative/trying to be something more, but it just sounds a bit... small. Feels So Good, If Only and Into the Blue are the ones for me but there are stinkers too and it feels very "made an album because it was time".

I agree with most of this but Can’t Beat the Feeling is great- and they should’ve put Heartstrings on the main album.

Still Standing is forever in an ongoing scrap in my head with Fever for greatest Kylie album track.
