I popped into said branch yesterday morning. I almost said something, but then looked at the staff and realised they probably wouldn't have a clue who I'm on about.
 
DJ Derek honoured by Lord Mayor

One of Bristol’s best-loved DJs, 70-year-old DJ Derek, was today awarded the city’s highest civic honour, the Lord Mayor’s Medal. At a special ceremony at the Mansion House, Derek Serpell-Morris and more than a dozen other nominees were honoured for their charity, voluntary and community work.

DJ Derek (right) worked as an accountant at Cadbury’s in Keynsham before becoming a washboard player in a reggae band in St Paul’s in the 1950s.

This led to a DJ career which has seen him play at festivals including Glastonbury and The Big Chill. Members of Massive Attack have praised him, and he starred as himself in a Dizzee Rascal video.

His 70th birthday tour takes him to Start The Bus next month, and in June he is joining the DJ lineup at the Love Saves The Day festival in Castle Park.

When not indulging his passion for music, Derek combines his two other passions, coach trips and real ale. As well as travelling every National Express route in the UK, he has also visited every Wetherspoon’s pub.

His Lord Mayor’s Medal citation reads: “Derek Serpell-Morris, best known as DJ Derek, was born and bred in Bristol and retired from his first career in accountancy to follow his love of music in a second career.

“Due to a lively awareness of changing musical styles, DJ Derek has demonstrated a remarkable ability to tap into the tastes of different ethnic groups and generations.

“From his one-time base at the Star and Garter pub in Montpelier he has travelled far and wide, including festivals at Glastonbury and in Spain, and is well known as a DJ who speaks on stage in a unique mix of Jamaican patois and unmistakable Bristolian.

“To be working and totally accepted in a young person’s environment at a ‘mature’ age is highly commendable.”
 
A man was kidnapped and dragged into bushes as he walked to work by a fairground worker who threatened to stab him, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

The man, in his twenties, was forced into bushes in Stanwix and told to perform a sex act by fairground worker Christopher Higgins.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how the victim was walking along Scotland Road at night on July 23 last year when he saw Higgins sitting on his bike at Eden Bridges “staring.”

Prosecutor Andrew Ford said: "The victim heard a bike behind him.

“He said he was grabbed by the neck and asked why he was giving the defendant funny looks. He then dragged him down a lane."

“The victim said: "He got hold of me and said "pull your pants down". I said "no" and he said if I didn't do what he said he would stab me. I still said “no” and he grabbed both my arms and pushed me over the bush and asked if I wanted to do this the easy way or the hard way.”

The prosecution say no evidence of a knife was shown to the victim but the victim did what Higgins demanded. Higgins, 24, of Oaklands Drive, Currock, is on trial accused of four charges – one of kidnap, one of kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence and two charges of causing a person to engage in sex without consent.

He has pleaded not guilty to all four charges.

“I was too scared to run away,” said the victim.

“He said don’t you dare say anything or tell anyone or I’ll come back and hunt you down and kill you.”

The victim then carried on towards his place of work and bumped into his cousin.

Higgins was arrested on July 27 last year at a fairground in Seahouses, Northumberland. He denied all knowledge of the matter.

He said he had an alibi and was in Brampton and hadn’t owned a bike for two years. Mr Ford said DNA evidence from Higgins was found on the victim’s clothing.

The trial continues.

A newly-wed couple got back from honeymoon to find their home painted in the style of Mr Blobby - as part of a revenge prank by the groom's brother.

Plasterer Russell O'Rourke, 32, spent two days on the makeover of his brother Steve's home in Hamstel Road, Southend.

It was in retaliation to a joke six years ago when Russell was on honeymoon and Steve, a builder, put up a brick wall across his driveway.

The design has prompted mixed reaction from neighbours.

'Funny side'

Mr O'Rourke, 32, and his new wife Hayley, 31, arrived home at about 04:00 BST on Sunday to discover the house "glowing" pink, despite the early hour.

Mrs O'Rourke, a mother-of-two, said: "It was pure shock to start with.

"We had a feeling he (Russell) might have done something because of the stunt Steve pulled, but we weren't expecting anything on the outside of the house.

"We were quite horrified, but then we just laughed and had to see the funny side of it.

"Everyone seems to love it and is taking pictures, they think it's hilarious. The neighbours have said it brightens up the street and we should keep it."

Crinkley Bottom

Staff at the Bakers Box, a sandwich bar opposite the pink property, said the house has "brightened people's spirits" and "everybody is smiling and talking about it."

However, one person told the BBC it was a "disgusting eyesore".

Mr and Mrs O'Rourke said they did not intend to keep the colour scheme long-term but admitted removing it may take some time.

"Russell thinks it's very funny and has no intention of helping to paint it over, but because we've been away and my husband has got such a backlog of work, it may well be sometime before the Blobby house goes," said Mrs O'Rourke.

Mr Blobby, who was pink with yellow spots, was a popular character on the Saturday evening TV programme Noel's House Party, starring Noel Edmonds, which ran on BBC One throughout the 1990s.

He disappeared from the public eye after the show was dropped in 1999.

A theme park in Morecambe based on the fictional village featured in the programme, Crinkley Bottom, closed after just 13 weeks in 1994, losing Lancaster City Council £2m.
 
What a load of SHIT! :D If going SOBER for a MONTH was really a "challenge" she'd have SAVED MORE than £20! She should have donated that instead. What a STINGY BITCH
