Many many businesses DEAD (1 Viewer)

There was Blockbuster and something else the other week. Surprised me as I thought Blockbuster was already LONG GONE
 
I swear I'm like BLACK DEATH to these businesses. I hadn't been in Brighton long before I discovered Habitat and Borders and then they closed. And now I move in pretty much next to a Blockbuster (not that literally, I don't live above a rental shop) and it's closing down now.
 
I think Borders is the one I mourn the most. Their store here was wonderful.

It's stretching my memory to find that in the back of my mind. All I can come up with is Pizza Land and Zodiac Toys.

We lost our Deep Pan Pizza Co years ago. I assumed they had gone everywhere.
 
It's Tower Records I miss - the one in Glasgow was amazing, full of fanzines, weird import 7"s and odd films as well as all the mainstream stuff. They fucked up because, when it started to go down, they kept all the mainstream stuff and binned everything else, completely misunderstanding their core audience and making things vastly worse.
 
Are Café Rouge dumper bound? Their two central Bristol restaurants have closed, leaving only one at an out of town (and presumably much cheaper rent) shopping centre.

I will miss their straight from the freezer tarte tatin and overpriced Breton cider :(
 
Gosh, and they only opened here a couple of years ago :o I have very fond childhood memories of the Strand-on-the-Green branch - I think it might actually be the first place I ever tried coffee.

I think it's safe to say you can never trust a 'restaurant' that sees nothing wrong in handing out gravy stained menus.

They are part of a chain, aren't they? I seem to remember eating at one of their other restaurants in one of the Heathrow terminals a couple of years back. Also a French one.
 
Oh no, who will sell overpriced coffee to the masses now? There's clearly a gap in the market.
 
Oh wait, I'm thinking of Pret a Manger. I hope that dies soon.

I quite like Strada, but then I'm pretty easily pleased with Italian food. Although not THAT pleased that I'd go to Bella Italia.

Still, if they ALL go under that's going to leave quite a hole.
 
I wouldn't call Pret pretentious. But they are overpriced.
 
Cafe Rouge alive and busy in Cardiff Bay. Pret a Manger are one of my preferred eateries. Nice food, comfortable and the staff are usually pleasant and efficient without being annoying.
 
They are pretentious. All that crap about FRESHLY MADE FRESH and NATURAL! What BULL. You might as well go to SUBWAY, at least they're HONEST about the REPULSIVE REALITY of CHAIN SHOP SANDWICHES
 
In the wanky chains I prefer Eat over Pret. I only EVER go when I am at the airport though.
 
Whenever I feel particularly wanky, I head straight for my nearest BHS cafe. It's so pretentious but their egg & cress is to die for.

I'm told a lot of old men go to the BHS Café when they're feeling particularly wanky :(
 
The concept of Pret a Manger being pretentious is tickling me no end, as is the idea of it operating on the same level as Subway or Greggs.
 
Now I DO like "Eat". I had a lovely pie and mash in there somewhere in Londinium only the weekend before last.

Pret is overpriced BOLLOCKS and don't get me started on Subway- I don't give a fuck if they don't have pretensions, I really DON'T want to eat somewhere where the bread cooking gives off a whiff that ACTUALLY SMELLS OF SICK.
 
If I were a BUSINESS I would so cynically FLEECE the MIDDLE CLASSES
