I'm sure they'll use Linda as they would any intern. With the lack of schlager i the competition and as neither of the presenters are singers she's also secured the occasional interval act.

She'll get far more exposure than any competition entry would ever net her. A respectable performance could even be a second leap towards becoming a national treasure.

Okay so there's a LOT to be getting on with as there's been a final last two names given to Aftonbladet, and a 'wash-up' final rumours and confirmed outs article that's been released...
 
  • Mariette is BACK BACK BACK with a G:son and Jimmy Jansson cowrite
  • "Swedish ethnopop is back in Melodifestivalen" with a folk sister duo who are the grandchildren of a "great Swedish artist" (no names revealed yet though) :o (HOPING BEYOND HOPE for a slightly earthier Timoteij/Sarek)
  • JessAn and Lina Hedlund submitted but have been rejected and Charlotte Perrelli has not submitted. In Aftonbladet's words, "it seems we will be without schlager divas in 2023".
  • Carola has been approached and received a lot of entreaties for a 40th anniversary entry since her debut with Främling, but has turned them down and is one of the artists Aftonbladet says won't be entering.
  • One More Time submitted but the "veteran artist slot went to Ewa & Eva"
  • David Lindgren submitted but won't be in
  • Jon-Henrik Fjällgren submitted last year and was rejected but sources differ on whether he's in this year
  • Cazzi Opeia has submitted an entry but "there are a lot of girls in the competition already. Whether it is a final yes or no from SVT is therefore unclear"

"The rules for Melodifestivalen include a gag on songwriters and artists, which means that they are not allowed to openly comment on their participation in the competition until SVT has given its permission. Aftonbladet therefore relies on a large number of well-informed sources to be able to report in advance which artists SVT selects for the competition. Before the 2022 Melodifestivalen we revealed 22 out of 28 acts, in 2021 Aftonbladet's readers knew 27 out of 28 artists in advance, in 2020 our list consisted of 21 out of 28 acts and in 2019 Aftonbladet had revealed 24 out of 28 contestants in advance."
 
I know we're all moaning and whinging but let me present to you some EXCERPTS from this time last year.

Well a mix of Wiktoria, Loreen and Mariette gives me at least SOMETHING to be invested in…
 
I wonder who will be the BIG HITTERS for each semi. On paper it's not a stellar year but then let's wait and see. I love Mariette but she has been declining year on year since A Million Years, and I think the moment has passed for Wiktoria too. At the moment, I cannot see past Loreen. But then I thought so in 2017 before we heard the songs.
 
They, especially Ewa, were completely spent after two full weeks of Mello, but...

now they've come around as it has completely renewed Ewa's career and is enabling Eva (who's always been racing at 110%) to net a wider array of more lucrative spectacles.
 
I suspect Theoz, Tone, or Loreen (or one of the unrevealed names - there's been a fair bit of buzz around Darin this last year) will be the one to take the hallowed heat 4 song 7 pimp slot.

Loreen, Marcus & Martinus and Tone of the one's released so far.

The last pimp slot would depend a lot on song choices and staging potential but I'd guess SVT would prefer Mariette over Wiktoria. Potential big hitters are Paul Rey, Victor Crone and Maria Sur, Theoz if he sings in English. Ida-Lova is most likely next year's Lovad but has Klingon upside. I would place LouLou in a similar fold to the John Lundvik of this year, here to give the competition some shimmer of all star and to broaden the fanbase for her Swedish content, not to compete for the win.

Panetoz, Tareq Taylor, Eva & Ewa and Nordman are big hitters domestically but unlikely to snatch a ticket to ESC.

I think SVT will present Marcus & Martinus as Norwegian teenage superstars here to conquer Sweden, mentioning in a throwaway comment that they already won a Swedish singing competition on a rivaling TV-channel.

Because the article said that One More Time were rejected because Eva and Ewa got a place.
 
Also, I kinda don’t want Loreen to get the pimp slot in the last heat, it puts even more pressure on her and it didn’t work for Statements. Not sure Mariette would get It either, as she’s already had it before.

:evil: I refuse to believe that. OMT has sent in the same songs a couple of years now and almost made the cut every year. I suspect SVT is holding out for them to send in stronger submissions.

I'm not sure the pimp slot matters to Loreen, it's nothing compared to the pressure she puts on herself to get out of bed every morning.
