Moopy ARTIST OF THE WEEK (10.10.11) - THE CARDIGANS

This thread has inspired me to re-assess Super Extra Gravity. I bought it on the day of release and then wrote it off as a poor man's Long Gone Before Daylight after far too few plays. Needless to say, after listening again that was a far too hasty judgement and songs like Don't Blame Your Daughter and Good Morning Joan are right up there with the best of their work.

I remember being a bit reluctant with Super Extra Gravity too at the start because I read a lot of poor reviews, but I think it is a wonderful album too.

So I've been listening to Long Day Before Daylight and I can definitely hear the Sheryl Crow comparisons, but I have to say I prefer Sheryl's voice (but that might be because of familiarity than anything else).

I haven't heard anything close to the utter joy that is "Communication" but I'll give it another go

Why did no one tell me before that cute Magnus has released a solo album ten years ago. *downloads* Any song recommendations?

The band have taken over a Facebook page formerly run by a fan. They posted some new photos from their gig yesterday:

The Magnus album is really good. I love it...though I haven't played it in an AGE.

I'm also TOTALLY in love with him. When I met him, I had a TOTAL giggly schoolgirl moment, which he ENTIRELY clocked and so gave me a kiss and threw his arms around me for the inevitable photos. He was an ENTIRELY lovely man...

I love the early St Et-esque stuff like Carnival and Sick and Tired. Though not into them all otherwise really... I could happily live without hearing the overplayed "Lovefool" ever again.

That said, I need to check that ALL TIME MOOPY CLASSIC album, the one with "For What It's Worth"(?), that's what got Nicky Wire to get them on the Manics track.

How on EARTH is their early stuff like Saint Etienne? If ANYTHING, the ET ripped off the Cardigans with the Scandinavian recorded "Good Humor" but THAT'S ABOUT IT

I wish they'd get back together. I could do with some DELIGHTFULLY NORDIC MISERABLISM

I dunno, I guess if the gigs go well enough...? Or have they already said that it's a no-no? On a similar note, I saw that Sterelab's reunion is a "live return" with a reissue programme ie pretty much the same as this)

I preordered the LGBD vinyl. Thanks for the info @Sheena !

Long Gone Before Daylight is my top 5 overall albums too. It's a beautifully crafted album. You can pick any song and enjoy it as it is, but as an album it's a cohesive body of work as well. Almost any song could have been a single.

Are Moopy's ARTIST OF THE WEEK (10.10.11) recording NEW MATERIAL? :o

Oh imagine the whole album played start to finish.

HOW WONDERFULLY GLOOMY

I'm so mad that I missed them touring Gran Turismo in full a few years back
