2000, Italy/UK, No. 1 smash! This one samples ‘Love is You’ by Carol Williams, and famously bear Victoria Beckham to number one. Truly a heavyweight bout for the ages. This was apparently the first song ever played on an iPod, and was spindly Soph’s first post-theaudience outing. The devil in me would like to point out that she had much better dance numbers that either finished too low or weren’t nominated at all, but I'm too impartial and professional to ever say such a thing.
 
Now I do like a dash of the Bexter bop (Mixed Up World, the Gameboy-tastic Solaris edit of I Won't Change You), but Groovejet is a little wishy washy for me.

1995, USA, No. 9 smash! Originally a hit in 1995, this reached no. 21 on re-release in 1998. The vocals are supplied by Rainie Lassiter, who boasts 357 unique followers on Twitter. The group itself is named after percussionist De’Lacy Davis, who used to be a police cop. He’s no longer with the band, so he must feel like Lulu did when they shoved her in a home and replaced her with that blow up doll because it was more relatable and human. Deep Dish are Iranian-American producers, one of whom, Sharam, released PATT (Party All the Time) in 2006. This is on Mixmag’s list of the 30 greatest vocal house anthems.
 
I was much too harsh on Hideaway in my rate. In my defence, funky should NOT have given Mason vs Princess Superstar a 1.
 
I could NEVER remember how this one went before this rate started. It used to be one of those I'd only remember the melody to while it was on.

I'm fully on board with it now, fucking banger.
 
Deep Dish are well known for having run away with Spoon out of Jam & Spoon.

1996. Italy/UK. No 3 smash. This maths-dodging dream trance smasher was originally a mid-tempo pop rock effort by Polish singer Edyta Gorniak. Own-brand Enya Maria Nayler has continued to plug away at this music lark without much success. I’d say the lord loves a tryer, but clearly that’s not true - she was only 24 in this video but looks like the poster girl for Werther’s Originals. This was covered in shit EDM form by Denis First and Reznikov in 2017. I’m calling this the surprise hit of the year. 14th is RIDICULOUSLY good.
