Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 10: Bulgaria, France & Georgia

Personally, I'd have said that he looked more like a disappointed Afghan Hound than a Disney Prince, but I guess it takes all sorts...

The actual performance of Sognu itself was little short of a masterclass on how to murder the chances of a track which was possibly a teensy bit overhyped to begin with (although Grande amore winning the televote a few years on I suppose shows the hypemen were onto something). The camera angles and lack of dancers were car crash decisions - it made it all so BORING!

I didn't expect it to be last, but that's more because Moustache is an actual war crime than because of any merits to Songu.

9th: Amandine Bourgeois - L'enfer Et Moi (39pts)

"The French Courtney Love" - if Courtney Love was an underperforming pop idol winner on a last desperate roll of the dice. It's a bit of a racket really and a strange choice to open the 2013 Contest, but she sells it well, the lyrics seem pretty good as far as I can tell and it's certainly very uncompromisingly FRENCH. Dress was a bit on the odd side, but at least she found a use for all those old VHS tapes cluttering up her chalet.

Victim of one of my favourite little Eurovision cruelties too - the first country to vote in the 2013 final was San Marino, who often seem to draw their jury scores randomly from a hat. This scored 8 points and looked set for success... only to get fuck all from everybody else and land in 23rd place. Mon Dieu!

1 x 6 (Kalabaliken)
5 x 0 (David_5000, Penelope, Kevin, sewerynsven, Alla)

He can come back looking like that please, this time with an actual song.

Actually no. We don't need operatics from France.

This was a perfect example of France just completely missing the point...

By the way I'm going to be VERY ANGRY when my 12 for France is going to come 7th. I already wrote a whole paragraph insulting you lot :)

8th: Twin Twin - Moustache (44pts)

The mid-10s were a particularly dire time for the French, with four consecutive bottom 4 placings from 2012-2015. This was the closest they ever came to the dreaded nul points, scoring a grand total of 2 to finish last on the scoreboard in Copenhagen, a nadir for the country.

You can really sense the lack of interest from the French broadcaster at this point, idly casting about in the hopes that a novelty hit would pay dividends. I seem to recall it had some vague political connotations too, but obviously nothing that really came across on the night.

I don't entirely hate it as a track, but it came off very amateurish - does attempting to get the crowd by demanding that they 'make some noise' EVER pay off at Eurovision? Not to mention it seems so BENEATH the French to act as though they're actually interested in audience feedback.

At the very least they were admirably unbothered by their national humiliation in the aftermath, I remember they were still living it up in the Euroclub come turfing out time on finals night - so they were clearly just in it for the vino. The lead singer would probably be quite attractive if not for the Jedward hair. (Penny to confirm)

1 x 10 (Suomi)
4 x 0 (Raining on Me, kevin7, dmlaw, Ag)

I really liked L'Enfer et Moi. It was a shambles, but there was a decent song underneath. Baffled and distraught that Edna Mode from last year hasn't turned up yet; I refuse to accept that anyone actually LIKED him.

I was going to ask what killed off all the big party tracks in 2014 until I remembered those tits didn't stand a chance against POLISH TITS :disco:

Moustache got its sole point from Sweden...I remember on their Inför Eurovision show the panellists absolutely loved it, and I swear that influenced the Swedish vote.

For me it is a great dance track, with hints of Beyoncé.
