Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 10: Bulgaria, France & Georgia

As well as In A Moment Like This it also blatantly RIPS THE SHIT off of Quedate conmigo (a fellow G:son which he BARELY BOTHERED TO REWRITE, NATCH :weed:) and Running Scared, being possibly the most blatant incidence all decade of "oooh our neighbour won with one of those CAN WE HAVE THE SAME WE WANT A WIN TOO"

Anyway I LOVE IT IN ALL OF ITS UTTERLY RANCID GLORY :disco:

Nodi is disturbingly not on Instagram, but then I could WELL BELIEVE he's into his 50s now looking at him THEN

My two favourites at the top. I'd be happy with either winner really, which doesn't happen often.

Do you think? There's plenty of crap that we've put through that I like less than either of these.

2nd: Nina Sublatti - Warrior (150pts)

OXIMATED :disco:

I'm mildly shocked this didn't manage to go the distance as it really feels like Georgia's best entry of the decade from memory, but on actually revisiting it, it really does shoot its wad in the first 30 seconds and then goes precisely nowhere.

Nina, her well-thumbed English dictionary and her outrageously obvious Party City wig definitely did everything she could with it, and the stage show looks fantastic, but the song just isn't really there, is it? Shame, I'd welcome her back with something a touch more worthy.

3 x 12 (Kalabaliken, sewerynsven, Ill Advised)
1 x 3 (Buttertart)

1st: Sopho Nizharadze - Shine (164pts)

Georgia's greatest Eurovision success to date, and Moopy broadly agrees as this pretty little musical theatre ballad tops the voting.

I can't say I ever feel the urge to listen to this song out of context, but it is a fairly impressive performance. The choreography with the sinister gay sex pests is really QUITE ludicrous, but she does well to (mostly) hold the vocal together while being hurled around like that. Do I also detect a CHIARA WINK at 1.30? :o

I like how every single one of the dancers is shamelessly attempting to pull focus whenever they manage to get into shot, but she's so darned pretty that she more than manages to hold her own.

7 x 12 (Buttertart, Jacques, Kevin7, dmlaw, Kevin, Alla, Raining on Me)
1 x 2 (David_5000)

Poor "I'm a Joker", miserable lot :D

For a country that's offered up a mix of turgid nonsense and desperate, blind genre dart throwing for hope of success, with even the top 2 mostly being slagged off than not (for god's sake even Portugal's winner was met with GLEE) I'll happily take that heap of confused nonsense which, as VoR rightly put it, was like a gay nervous breakdown, presented as theatrical, conceptual HIGH ART (with no discernable song structure, logic or anything coherent to back it up, but that's homosexual meltdown art for you).

The vast majority of the rest was like music to be sentenced to DEATH by.

I do like "Shine" however, a worthy winner and she certainly gives it her all.

Nothing worse than a song that promises so much to begin with and manages to actually give you less the more it drags on, so Warrior can kindly go back to the grubby Georgian cell it came from.

For the range of things Georgia sent, 'Shine' is a really bland winner.

I HATED Shine at the time, and I still do today :disco:

Warrior would have been the worthy winner, albeit it's a performance that's all about the aesthetic. I can barely remember how the song even GOES.
Didn't warrior Nina turn up a year or two later as a voting correspondent looking exactly the same :disco: I would youtube it to check but don't really care enough.

When are we getting the next three countries? I'm not saying I'm bored being stuck in quarantine, but I've already counted all of my shoes and planned in detail my national cock fighting league. Having something else to devote my attention to would be a boon.
