Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 12: Albania, Belgium & Spain (1 Viewer)

9th: Daniel Diges - Algo pequeñito (49pts)

Final+Eurovision+Song+Contest+2010+Live+Show+qgx8HnKfZJkx.jpg

In which Spain does Cirque du soleil... I'll pass, thanks. :zombie:

Most notable for a stage invasion that actually didn't really register due to the batshit nature of the whole performance, but it was enough that 2010 viewers wound up having this inflicted on them TWICE. It was still only enough to drag them up to 15th place, though. There's something about Daniel Diges I just don't trust - I think it's the legs akimbo posture. Definitely in my top somewhere of Eurovision contestants who are potential secret murderers.

The notable runner-up in Spain's accursed pre-selection that year was fiery diva CORAL, who allegedly had an almighty meltdown and started throwing chairs around the set when her proto-Pastora powerballad was cruelly snubbed at the last moment. I imagine that stupid stage invader would have had his balls ripped off and shoved down his throat had he even dared to try to interrupt madame's moment. Thanks for nothing, Daniel.

1 x 8 (Alla)
4 x 0 (Pingu, Win The Game, Buttertart, Jacques)

The post-Mika years really were a DARK TIME for Mark Gatiss in Nighty Night/Rachel Dolezal type men popping up in national finals everywhere :zombie:

Goodness if he wasn't just the SPIT!

Hate the track too. Take your stupid fucking MUGGING CLOWN and FUCK OFF FROM MY GAY POP CONTEST!

Holy shitting arse at that change :o

He clearly WAS a secret murderer - one who raped and killed truckloads of attractive men and ATE them until eventually he turned into one.

Nice job, Dan :disco:

8th: Alfred & Amaia - Tu cancion (50pts)

Now here's an entry that genuinely did capture the imaginations of the Spanish public, though quite how or why remains a bit of a mystery. It was evidently born out of some kind of showmance on Spain's Love Island meets Melodifestivalen selection format, which became a ratings juggernaut that year.

The result was this emetic gloop, most notable for the vast chasm in vocal ability between she (passable) and he (sings like he has a heavy cold and a nasty case of lockjaw). Local hopes were high but wider Europe was unconvinced. Needless to say, they'd split up practically before the plane landed back in Madrid.

1 x 6 pts (Ill Advised)
2 x 0 (Kevin7, wurst)

ANOTHER one which denied us a ludicrous mega-banger - and one which went on to be a huge hit! I mean, small mercies that this clearly wouldn't have done much in the same field as Fuego (and indeed could've possibly DAMAGED IT A BIT), but still - who WOULDN'T rather just have nonsense like this from Spain YEAR IN YEAR OUT?

I find Tu Cancion quite sweet in a drippy, hazy sort of way - and if I don't look at them

They were quite an affable pair of simpletons but I could have done without them constantly pawing at each other. In the era of social distancing, you'd never get away with shouting up each other's nostrils at point blank range the way they did.

Spain have THAT in their arsenal? :o

7th: El Sueño de Morfeo - Contigo hasta el final (51pts)

Note the close point totals so far (Manel aside), there really is nothing between all these forgettable Spanish flops!

I suppose this one was a good idea on paper: like Pastora the year before, El Sueño de Morfeo were industry veterans with a string of hits under their belt and plentiful big stage experience. Sadly they neglected to bring along an actual song.

There's nothing specifically offensive about this, but nothing remotely memorable either. Lead singer has the look, but this is the sound of Spain going full Radio 2, and who on earth wants THAT?

1 x 8 (dmlaw)
2 x 0 (Kevin, sewerynsven)

I always like ESDM - CHEF more than I always think I do when I'm playing it, but I can't say I ever go BACK to it

Do Spain have the best "near miss" back catalogue in recent memory?

Do Spain have the best "near miss" back catalogue in recent memory?
Denmark rivals them, but I think Spain is much worse, because at least - for better or worse - Denmark's Radio 2 sensibility normally sees them right most years. Spain keep turning down tracks almost guaranteed to do BETTER than their dull inevitable bottom 5 choices get most of the time.

Now THIS is the face of someone that would beat his parents to death for the inheritance, and then make a blank-eyed appearance at a televised press conference asking for information that will bring their killer to justice.

You know I have so little to say about ANY of these songs. What a boring boring selection.

This was THE car crash performance by a clearly terrified vocalist until Blanche shuddered into our lives.

I have vaguely positive memories of everything except my bottom two, but I very much hope there isn't going to be a test on which song is which.

6th: Lucía Pérez - Que Me Quiten Lo Bailao (95pts)

Eurovision+Song+Contest+Dusseldorf+2011+Finals+IUVrnPCucsWx.jpg

Now this is more LIKE IT.

Not the song, obviously, which is fairly gash. But fuck me, at least Spain briefly got the memo vis a vis their Eurovision USP - ropey vocals, several inches of slap that somehow still entirely fail to hide the crows feet and much frantic arm waving and wiggling of leg. Believe it or not they were rewarded with their strongest televote of the decade, a hint they entirely failed to take with subsequent entries.

Lucia recently appeared as a guest juror in Finland's doomed national selection, where she was the only non-homosexual to buck the trend and award top marks to Cicciolina. SHE KNOWS THE SCORE.

What happens when we've done every country (apart from kill ourselves obviously)? Are we having two semi finals or one gigantic final? And if its semis how on earth is the line-up for each decided?

Hope Lea Sirk gets a pimp slot, her vote won't hold if she's in the first half :(
