Just trying to mix things up a bit from the last ASFM and make it a bit more ’Eurovisiony’ - especially since there’s not a proper one this year. I think with this way people will have to think harder about their entry. It’s either going to be a roaring success or a Turkvision. :D
Oh Kala, I don't mean you in particular and I'm here for Kalavision, I would submit a 100 years old song if you ask me too. I mean, I've seen these games before, and they all try to recreate Eurovision, but it's absurd, at least if we were from those countries would make any sense. There is no real emotion representing a country you (maybe) know nothing about, it's all so empty and cold. I know the euroqueens love this nosense and they all copy each other, but it makes no sense. Why not a limit of 2 or 3 artist per country, for example? Why not any artist representing a country even when they are not related? Most of us won't be related to our country at all. It's not going to recreate the real Eurovision at all!

Not trying to be polemic, and I'm happy with Kalavision happening, just sharing my thoughts. :)

I've just seen that rereading the original post answers my question, oops! But hooray :disco:

Was just about to answer that! :)

As long as the song or artist has some sort of connection to the country it should be fine.

What about the language? If the artist is from one country but the song itself is in another language can it count for the country the language is spoken in?

There is no language rule, but if say, a song in Estonian is sung by a Swedish singer then it’s likely to have been written by an Estonian so it would be allowed.

Yes but let’s say it isn’t written by an Estonian. Then it’s not allowed?

*Ag’s brain explodes*

That's an interesting question.

Can I submit a song written by Irish people and performed by an Irish singer in French to represent France?

The connection thing could prove problematic. Natalie from Cascada informs me that her favourite holiday destination is Afghanistan, she visits twice a year, it's her favourite world cuisine and she shags five Afghans (dogs and humans) a WEEK.

Seems more of an authentic connection than "my great aunt was from Israel so I'm Israeli me, never been and can't speak the language though lol"

It also feels a little problematic digging through British and American singers who identify as English and American for their heritage in the hope that it'll be something obscure so that I can use them to represent a country here. Especially when their ancestors were most likely brought there through the slave trade.

But anyway.

I assume whatever we send @Kalabaliken you'll verify first as to whether its eligible or not?

Bit horrific for us to send something in good faith only to be told the connection isn't good enough and be disqualified later. Although Cascada for Afghanistan is clearly watertight.

As I'm not sure I can provide a screenshot of Natalie's passport proving she constantly visits Afghanistan, I hope Kala takes his time to verify this evident connection and accepts it, if I'm lucky enough to get Afghanistan.

Wait, are we given countries? I thought we choose them outselves when we get the secret email?

We do but if you're near the bottom of the list your chosen country might get picked by someone else first.

We all clearly need many options here especially as a lot of people will probably try to go for similar countries.

I've narrowed mine down to Greenland, Easter Island and Shropshire so far

It doesn't seem to fit the criteria. Bit easy for some languages where anyone could do a French version of their song.

But then it's also rather hard to say a song sung in Mongolian can't represent Mongolia if it's by a singer/writer from Jaywick, when someone who lived for two weeks in Estonia ten years ago is fine:basil:

I'm just sticking with "has to be written by/sung by" as a rule of thumb unless I really struggle (or find something amazing I need to find an excuse to enter)

I have a country I'm hopeful no one else will pick and a TREAT of a song.
