Old TOTP (BBC4) (1 Viewer)

It started mid 70s I think - I seem to recall they chose then because that was the earliest date where they have every episode on record; many of the episodes prior to that have been lost or destroyed, although many do remain.

I kind of just assumed they would carry on. To be honest I'm less interested in the 90s than I am 70s and 80s, but I'm guessing people younger than me will have more interest in it, and I'm certainly happy to carry on watching regardless.

I’m interested maybe up until the end of the height of Brit Pop, so maybe will stop caring after 1996.
 
Why should the filming of Story Of be difficult? It's essentially just clips with a few talking heads - surely it should be one of the easiest things to film.

And to be honest I'd have thought they would have started the new year without one rather than waiting, anyway.
 
TOTP Big Hits 1990 and The Story Of 1990 on the schedules for Friday 2nd October, so hopefully it's BACK BACK BACK!
 
I hope so...I'm definitely interested in the 90s. Especially because of the absolute indie invasion that was only just starting at the end of 89 with The Wonder Stuff, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays.
 
As the chart in the second episode was being counted down and Band Aid II still wasn't appearing, I was like 'who are all these weirdos still buying a Christmas song in the second week of January'. Then I remembered it was a charity single and felt bad :(

TOTP provides some evidence to my theory/ recall that Xmas started and finished later back in the day.
 
The only FUN TO BE HAD when the NEW KIDS are on is trying to spot POOR OLD DANNY in the video clip :(
 
Has anyone been watching Guy Garvey's 'From The Vaults' on Sky Arts? Similar kind of thing to the TOTP 'Story Of' year shows.
 
Lonnie Gordon, Sybil, Cher and Technotronic. What an episode.

A little surprised Technotronic were getting top 3 new entries, but they really were fairly central to the new dance movement.
 
Better get started on this before the episodes start disappearing. I miss the post-Xmas flurry of releases from artists who are otherwise struggling for that chart breakthrough. The Quireboys were a buried memory I'd hoped not to revisit...Fish in his Uncle Sam outfit is quite the sight too.
 
Oh, The Mission did the post-Xmas dead zone trick a few times but this is actually a decent song.
 
Good grief, Halo James.

In June 1990, I queued up at the HMV in Argyle Street to see James do wee acoustic set and sign records. The Halo James video came on the screen after the set due to nothing but accident. There was much muttering and the odd swear at the TV sets. It seems they were a bit worried about how well Halo James had been charting and were concerned there might be legal shenanigans.

I think it's safe to say that the matter resolved in James's favour.
 
Sorry but I always hated what Kylie did with "Tears On My Pillow". I can feel my teeth rotting as it plays.
 
New Kids On The Block was a nadir. I genuinely don't think it got lower than that.
