Old TOTP (BBC4) (2 Viewers)

Apparently he refused to sign an agreement that they could be reshown. Before dying obvs

OH, isn't his death part of the CONSPIRACY THEORY around Yew tree? That he knew about it and was going to SPILL ALL? And therefore he had to go the way of Jill Dando, murdered because she was working on an EXPOSE, whereas he MYSTERIOUSLY DIED in a 'routine procedure'.

:o

I remember reading that one of the reasons the Human League wanted their TOTP appearances on that recent ridiculously priced package of theirs was because every live appearance they made was Yewtreed by sheer misfortune. This doesn't seem *quite* true as they did make one showable "Don't You Want Me?" and, presumably, by the time we get to, I dunno, "Human" and so on, they're OK. But we miss a lot. They can't make comps that are pure Savile/DLT because they'd have to explain why.

I suppose they did release a statement saying they wouldn't be showing those episodes but I'm trying to imagine the continuity announcer "and now on BBC4, a compilation from Top Of The Pops with the peado and the fondler chopped out".

They wouldn't have to make a song and dance about it. Interesting that the Human League should have brought it up, but you can imagine the frustration of numerous acts missing their one appearance.

There must be piles of one-hit wonders who've lost out, which is a damn shame.

And yet somehow some that you assume to be one hit wonders, appear week after week - see Hayzi Fantazi.

I don't see why the BBC would have to explain why at all, when TOTP2 already exists. They just bring that back.

Plus, like Ag says, everybody already knows.

These international charts are entirely unnecessary. The Creatures didn't thrill me much. This Tears For Fears track is quite decent.

Oh I always loved the international chart features, not that I remember what was IN them. In fact there was much more HOT EURO on that thing Jonathan King used to present, whatever THAT was

Again, think about the charts and music on television then and the charts and music on television now. Would The Creatures get onto a prime time TV show with that now? And they did TOTP twice with that, remember. Twice!

I mean, OK, when either of them shuffles off, this won't be anyone's go-to tune but it says so much about how things have change and how nothing remotely experimental is allowed to penetrate now.

Just catching up on Friday's show... Did we really miss the 1000th show?

Modern Romance are cheesy as fuck. The tap dancing old black man is quite something.

Savile presented it.

Belle Stars were cut from the broadcast - they do this sometimes then show them in full late Saturday but I think they always go onto the iPlayer in full.

I really do feel like they could do an edit job. I guess this is BBC4 and budgets possiby don't stretch to that...

I had not realised this. I must stop watching live.

This is a fairly poor episode. I mean Men At Work. He's a fruity looking fucker and they didn't deserve a 2nd opportunity.

IKR. The internet age really has killed off anything beyond our own little echo chambers.

Truth. Not sure what annoyed me more, the extra drummers doing the daffy robotic movements or the keyboard guy with the 'tache and kilt combo. Singer looked like he had a fifth form art class waiting for him.

Twisted Sister appear to have Noel Fielding on guitar....I genuinely don't remember them being that popular. Oh well.

I was just about to pop in to comment on that! Mind you, this one has always been SHIT. I hated this Bowie era (and most of those which followed)

I actually love this Elvis Costello song. Hasn't aged, still fucking spot on.
