Old TOTP (BBC4) (1 Viewer)

So DON'T you GET FRESH WITH ME

WHO were the WEE PAPAS DISSIN' though? I hope it wasn't BETTY, although she wasn't really around yet

OMG the BARD OF BASINGSTOKE! What a YEAR

FUCK ME IT'S ENYA and she's NOT PLAYING a PIANO covered in RED CARNATIONS

TRULY THIS IS THE YEAR THAT CIVILIZATION ACTUALLY PEAKED

But what IS she doing?

The tarot suggests that the SYPHILITIC STARE may almost certainly be involved

She was being INTERSPERSED with her video due to lack of VISUAL ENTERTAINMENT, poor lamb

HOW did I not know The Only Way Is Up was a cover?!

Also Yazz officially cancelled for being a Born Again Christian.

The first play of Yazz’s hot follow-up ‘Stand Up For Your Love Rights’ went down ever so well at G-A-Y or whatever it used to be called. Everyone LIMPLY FRUGGED for a bit and then SAT DOWN :(

Thank God for JINNY :disco:

I believe Mike Smith fucks off soon, so we should get 100% of episodes, unless I've missed a sneaky paedo.

Apparently he presented only 4 episodes in '88, compared to 16 each in '85, '86 and '87.

Actually wall to wall bangers. Obviously Ormond Street is terrible but worth it for a sighting of 1980s Bonnie Langford and a very uncomfortable looking Sylvester McCoy

Replaced by a TOTP clip show for reasons UNKNOWN.

How strange. I assumed it was due to Glastonbury but obviously not.

Anyway, catching up on last week. Simon Climie skipping around the stage is all very awkward, but enjoying Tiffany and her dance break moves in particular. I do wish she'd sing the chorus as per the record though...

For some reason our sky+ planner picked up the football instead of TOTP.

We nearly lost the 25 February 1988 edition of Top Of The Pops. One of the posters in the Top Of THe Pops 1988 thread at Digital Spy noticed that the episode had not been scheduled for broadcast. There appeared to be no reason why it should be skipped, the show is co-presented by Mark Goodier and Peter Powell. Further there are no issues with the quality of the tape as it is of perfect quality (I have a copy and can confirm this). Said poster contacted Mark Goodier who was just as intrigued as it is his debut on the show. Eventually a message got through to the Controller of BBC4 who looked into it. It appears the programme was incorrectly flagged as a Mike Smith edition. Thankfully the programme has now been scheduled for repeat though I believe it will be shown out of sequence. It's one of the best editions of 1988 so it's good news that it's going to be shown.

Only four more Mike Smith episodes to go and if you want to watch them...
