I'm about to lose a few episodes, not that they've shown many recently...

The appeal of The Wildhearts always eluded me but I always respected them. They did it their way, if you like.
 
Everything but the Girl realising that going all dance worked a treat and going jungle for the follow up. Were the results not so brilliantly executed, it would have been opportunism of the highest order but their lightness of touch on "Walking Wounded" renders it graceful and dreamlike.
 
The pipeline from the BBC declining to even say the full title of "I Want You Sex" to cheerfully broadcasting the word "bullshit" in less than 10 years has a cultural study of sorts in it somewhere.
 
Ah yes, The Cure killing their career as a commercial chart-bothering band. The 13th is a tuneless goof and the album was a shambles. Their wilderness years beckoned, the ones that seemingly every successful 'heritage' band has to endure before becoming legendary.
 
Another instance of my brain going "who?" until the song kicked in from The Lisa Marie Experience - that song was everywhere all summer.
 
Orbital - The Box. Banger. I think "In Sides" was their best album and this was quite the way to trail it. Tilda Swinton being incredible in the video too.
 
"Goldfinger" was one of Ash's best. Weirdly constructed and ambitious without being a sonic diversion which was exactly what they needed at this stage.
 
I said my piece about A Design For LIfe upthread but it's hard not to notice how blank and detached James Dean Bradfield looks here. Nicky Wire has more spring in his step tho'.
 
I know it's mocking the afflicted but he was sexist earlier in the show so I don't mind enjoying that Chris Eubank had to say "At six, Cecilia by Suggs".

I have no memory at all of this slowed down, retooled version of "I Will Survive". Rightly based on this exposure. Let's just suck all the joy and defiance out of it and replace it with smoooooth sounds. Or, let's fucking not.
 
I don't mind Before but I think many call this as the end of Pet Shop Boys imperial phase and I'm inclined to agree. I've never once thought "I'll tell what PSBs tune I really want to hear now, Before...". Was this the single with a shlong on the cover? I have a memory of Sonic Youth reviewing the singles for one of the music papers are being genuinely rather stunned by that...
 
OK, found it, I wasn't right - they hated Before but wanted to hear The Truck Driver And His Mate. :D
 
I'd forgotten The Cure did their "let's dress up the horn section as Manuel from Fawlty Towers" thing twice. Grim.
 
The Smashing Pumpkins in their only tolerable period. I mean, at least they had a bit of ambition but they really were the most awkwardly sewn together bunch.
 
Olympics + Proms appear to have booted the 90s re-runs from the schedule again, but they do have an old one from 1989 so I'm making do.

Poor Jenny Powell really was entirely talentless, wasn't she? :D
 
Landslide of Love by Transvision Vamp, good song! I think the dearly departed Strebor recommended it to me way back in the day.
 
Kylie's dancers really having a gay old time in this Wouldn't Change a Thing performance. :D

Fuck me, even by the low, low standards of Football records 'Liverpool Groove' is absolute dreck. I'm almost offended on behalf of my people.
 
At least the backing track to that Cantona one was giving mid-00s Bulgarian Eurovision entry.

I think Tonight Tonight might be the only Smashing Pumpkins song I actually know. Very good though. As a kid I was mildly unsettled by the video.

He was fast approaching 40 and released an album called 18 Til I Die. It probably IS as simple as a midlife crisis, isn't it? Either that or he was sponsored by John Frieda Root Booster.

I had a sobering moment just now when I looked up his age and realised I'm older than he is there (though not by much).
 
He was immediately followed by the Backstreet Boys and of course Nick Carter is carrying off a not dissimilar hairstyle with considerably more aplomb.
 
Hmm. Seems like they skipped a week between these episodes (the week Gina G was #1).

Was it because John Alford was on it?
