Look at it though. The song is shit even by his standards, but I genuinely believe the performance is one of the most nauseating I've ever seen.

Lou Bega must have been expecting a bit of a dead cat bounce, ditto Lenny Kravitz (though the label could have followed up Fly Away quicker).

Thunderbugs was the shocker. They had millions thrown at them and it all went awry because a dodgily timed second single (though they were always gonna end up in the dumper). Maybe their slot went to Artful Dodger that week.

Poor Marvin and Tamara also flopped the next week. I think they charted outside the top 40 Christmas week then snuck in the week after.

I actually like that B*Witched single but it wasn’t the one to get them back high up the charts. They must have been crapping themselves immensely.

Cliff doing acapella (mimed). Oh christ.

Have we already discussed Wamdue Project woman’s lips?

Incredibly behind and have missed loads, so picking it up randomly from here and :disco: INDEED. I think I enjoy it more than My Love is Your Love these days.

Do we think she filmed her performances in one go? There was something uncannily similar about the INRBIO performance from weeks ago.
 
Given her look/hair I’d say all her 1999 performances were filmed in one batch way back in the Feb/March?

I’m a bit behind now so need to catch up before any fall off the schedule :shock:
 
I love all the singles from Pet Shop Boys Nightlife album, but God it really was their worst visual era ever. :D Those ginger fright wigs!

OK I love 17 Again but this acoustic version Annie is shouting her way through is insufferable.
 
God this is such a classic early January episode. Scooch, Point Break and a third single from an underperforming Pet Shop Boys album slipping into the top ten, never to be heard from again. What a time!

Masses Against The Classes. Absolute banger. A shame they just used a weedy live clip as a video but they knew what they were doing. Limited pressing, January deadzone - why bother with a video?
 
Catching up now. I bought that Donell Jones featuring Left Eye single at the time, but AGOG to remember it was released in January??!! It screams chilled out SUMMER BOP (utter tune still though, & Left Eye's appearance just showcases her STAR QUALITY AS ALWAYS). Her not being on TOTP is a loss. The instrumental break is NOT ENOUGH.

Limited edition indeed, shame that the anticipation fizzled out with Know Your Enemy later. Should have been released in the first week of the year for the first number 1 of the Millennium - not that its message has been ADHERED TO since of course.

No memory of this dance version of Rescue Me either. My interest in the charts peaked & faded around this point. Gone are the days I'd avidly write down the top 40 every week & try predict the next week's charts :(
 
I remember there being a lot of speculation that Scanty WAS another Norman Cook alias. I guess not? Always hard to tell with 00s DJ alias antics.

Was it a Norman Cook remix of Scanty Sandwich?
 
Aren't Lyte Funky Ones ALL DEAD now? Truly a monkeys paw curse of a band.

Girl on TV isn't as agreeably ludicrous as Summer Girls, but still quite fun as boyband nonsense goes.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but some of these live vocals are... optimistic.
 
Having been haunted by his diminishing returns attempts to win Melodifestivalen for 3 decades now, it's bizarre to be reminded that Andreas Johnson was briefly quite credible.
 
I know Ooh! Stick You! is objectively terrible, but the delivery of the line “Your momma, your daddy, your GREASY GREASY GRANDNANNY” will never not make me chuckle.

Only one is alive, and he appears to do solo shows where he performs all the hits :) :(
 
Fierce were quite the anomaly, three minor hits, then they released their biggest single, then they disappeared.

Wasn't their a similar girl and from around this time who also disappeared after their big hit?
 
There are days when I think 'Hammer to the Heart' might be better than Hung Up.

Not many, admittedly, but today might be one of them. If only they'd managed to clear the sample.

Don’t Falter is amazing. Is that the song that got a second wind a decade or so later and became a #1 or am I thinking of something else?

No that was Singin in the Rain but it was a minor hit, re released a few years later when George Sampson won Britain's Got Talent and got to #1!
