TBH I can completely understand lying about his sexuality - even when you have one leg hanging out of the closet it can be a hard thing to get out of and you can end up lying to
yourself a lot, even to the point you believe you're telling the truth to others. So I don't count his relationship with his ex wife towards this at all really. Some bias here as I have a friend from another forum who did something like that, even had kids. Thankfully last I saw the kids and (ex-)husband were supportive and understanding despite the heartbreak, which is wonderful honestly.
The reactions of his colleagues is odd. Indeed, under normal circumstances it'd be none of their business in the first place so that just further makes me
wonder whether (not assume) there's more to this. Eammon Holmes making quite a threatening comment there about telling the whole story.
This is an interesting one. Why?
The most extreme argument I've seen (on Twitter of course) is that if you know the person before they're of age then you're influencing them just by being present / known, and that it's therefore always grooming... Even if the grown adult says they are happy and have never considered themselves groomed and they marry and grow old together and maybe have kids... "ah but you knew them when they were 15 therefore you're a groomer"
That's the Twitter twat extreme. In the MLP community there's a musician/singer who befriended a couple of the young voice actors when they were early teens or so and he was 20s, they hung out a lot (with the family's permission and approval). Eventually when she was 18 one of them approached
him with a crush (not the other way round), asked him out, they ended up together. Think they're married now. Every now and then the drama gets dug up on Twitter and he gets called a groomer and p-word, even though she herself says it was her who developed feelings and asked him out first, that he was always completely respectful hanging out with them when they were younger etc. But these people tell her she's been groomed and brainwashed and essentially imply she isn't able to think for herself. I feel bad for them whenever it comes up.
I think that's batshit, but, also not the other extreme that it never happens and isn't possible. I'd say there can be an influence and basically grooming (even of a young or vulnerable adult) but it's a case by case thing and not something we can assume either way.
