Phillip Schofield's Career DEAD? 🤷‍♀️ The Castaway Years (1 Viewer)

Unfortunately the new pool is reality TV contestants
I don’t think we can include Alison in this, I think her rise to fame was very organic and likely because she actually has a personality and is very likeable. However I do agree that a lot of the other reality TV starts come presenters are on the whole pretty rubbish.

I definitely wasn't including QUEEN Alison, I was thinking more of the TOWIE / Made in Chelsea / Love Island alumni

Yes, and the same goes for Rylan.

Oh yes, I was forgetting where Rylan came from in terms of his career.

BBC News need to stop sending push notifications about this. Holly’s thoughts are not breaking news.

I find lying VERY problematic so I’m pleased she went for the DOUBLE DECKER! :disco:

“I was very hurt to learn that my real and genuine friend had lied to me, so, naturally, I threw him under the bus at the first opportunity.”
I recognise that there’s some anti-Holly sentiment on here but I don’t think their friendship was an ACT. The rapport and relationship always seemed genuine to me

I feel a little bit  about the assumption that Holly is lying and trying to cover up what she knew.

These events certainly cast doubt upon how close their friendship actually was. And it’s somewhat inevitable that she/her team will be trying to limit the damage to her.

But if Phillip Schofield lied to his wife and family for many years (about his sexuality, let alone anything else) I’m not sure why it’s such a stretch that he lied to Holly too…

Yes, this. But you can be close and be lied to. Unfortunately

TBH I can completely understand lying about his sexuality - even when you have one leg hanging out of the closet it can be a hard thing to get out of and you can end up lying to yourself a lot, even to the point you believe you're telling the truth to others. So I don't count his relationship with his ex wife towards this at all really. Some bias here as I have a friend from another forum who did something like that, even had kids. Thankfully last I saw the kids and (ex-)husband were supportive and understanding despite the heartbreak, which is wonderful honestly.

The reactions of his colleagues is odd. Indeed, under normal circumstances it'd be none of their business in the first place so that just further makes me wonder whether (not assume) there's more to this. Eammon Holmes making quite a threatening comment there about telling the whole story.
This is an interesting one. Why?
The most extreme argument I've seen (on Twitter of course) is that if you know the person before they're of age then you're influencing them just by being present / known, and that it's therefore always grooming... Even if the grown adult says they are happy and have never considered themselves groomed and they marry and grow old together and maybe have kids... "ah but you knew them when they were 15 therefore you're a groomer"

That's the Twitter twat extreme. In the MLP community there's a musician/singer who befriended a couple of the young voice actors when they were early teens or so and he was 20s, they hung out a lot (with the family's permission and approval). Eventually when she was 18 one of them approached him with a crush (not the other way round), asked him out, they ended up together. Think they're married now. Every now and then the drama gets dug up on Twitter and he gets called a groomer and p-word, even though she herself says it was her who developed feelings and asked him out first, that he was always completely respectful hanging out with them when they were younger etc. But these people tell her she's been groomed and brainwashed and essentially imply she isn't able to think for herself. I feel bad for them whenever it comes up.

I think that's batshit, but, also not the other extreme that it never happens and isn't possible. I'd say there can be an influence and basically grooming (even of a young or vulnerable adult) but it's a case by case thing and not something we can assume either way.

What a ridiculous notion to have. Goldie Hawn met Kurt Russell when he was 16 and she was 21. They got together when he was 31 and she was 37. Grooming :D

I do find the Don Johnson/Melanie Griffith story to be quite icky though.

Trying to think what I'd do if one of my colleagues was in an "unwise but not illegal" relationship and honestly I'd stay out of it. 🤷‍♂️

They are (were) supposedly 'close friends' though. So more than colleagues. Close friends do kinda have a duty to have that conversation don't they? I certainly would expect mine to at least talk to me about something - and once they've done that, they've done their part and it's over to you to decide what to do with that advice.

it's not just really a regular colleague situation though is it? I'm not sure it's about their friendship either. they're on TV as a duo, they have a brand, their interaction and popularity together makes money and keeps Holly in a high profile job. it's not like she has zero investment if he's done something that's going to become a scandal.

I don't think it's "none of her business" the same way it would be if a random straight guy from my office turned out to be a serial adulterer. and if they have had a close friendship off camera it makes sense that she'd feel extra betrayed, and inclined to do something to save herself.

I think we're agreeing??

At least he doesn't look 15.

Now this is where it all happens....

...something that has that has slightly bigger wow-factor like: Spotted dick :square:

Whatever they cook it's delicious and always goes down well with the presenters :zombie:

But what I wanna know is what gets your mouth watering?
Or, what can you really not stomach?

I’m not sure we can expect to see Matthew as the anchor anytime soon - stiff ( :ken: ) isn’t the half of it

"He's been here for twelve years, that's a long temp job, isn't it Phillip?"
"I just can't find a way out."

Well, guess what Phil, you just found it.

OK let’s say Holly genuinely knew nothing about the relationship, or even that she had suspicions but believed him when he said nothing happened (both of which stretch credulity to absolute breaking point, but sure let’s go with it).

Her statement yesterday implying that she JUST found out about it when Phil put his statement out and has been taking a day to process it is categorically absolute nonsense. If that were the case, we’d have to believe that he stepped down from This Morning of his own accord to stop the show becoming the story, that she had nothing to do with it, and the pitiful “send-off” he got the following Monday was…well there’s no explanation for that if nobody knew anything.

Oh my god at, in 2020 -

Matt: See you in three years! Wonder what we'll both be doing then?
Phil: Well if I'm still getting away with it I'll be a happy man!

:eyes: :D :(

Matt: Let's give the viewers, although they do know you quite well now, let's give them a little bit more information thet they might not know.

Phil: Alright then, let's see if you can get me to say something out loud that I haven't said before.

Matt: Challenge accepted!

Matt: Have you ever been in a detention?

Sorry to disappoint, but that showreel is much older than 2020 - someone just posted it then, a week after Phillip came out.
