Post the first song you remember from a pop artist

Oddly enough, I was obsessed with this largely forgotten Celine single at age 5. My mum must have played it all the time.

Eternal - Stay

Always and Forever was the first album I ever bought and was obsessed ever since

Well most of my faves I can remember the first single by so I went for a band which I was too young/not around for at their peak or to remember clearly but this is the first Blondie song I remember clearly, my mum played it a lot.

Duplicate post so here’s another band similar to above except it was a big sis playing this.

my mum had this album on cassette and played it all the time, and I remember making up dances to it. I had idea it was a Eurovision song until I got the Internet. I chose this YouTube because it has the album front cover as the image and I just always remember it lying in the front of the car.

This has also prompted another memory where my best friend Eric came round and said he had an amazing song to play me because the singer sings ‘so long’. He then played what I later learnt was Whitney Houston I Will Always Love You, and kept replaying the final belting moment. I was very unimpressed and he didn’t like that, and then he was further annoyed when I did that classic child thing of using your friend to get more treats by saying “mummmmm, Eric wants another iced bun”, and he was so embarrassed and angry at me, even whilst we sat eating our second iced bun, and a very sad Whitney Houston record lay discarded by our feet.

I have a vivid memory of this being on the radio while my aunt was taking me to a Chinese restaurant for my sister's birthday, and quietly bopping to it:

I remember dancing to this in my grandparents back garden. I was 2!

I remember hearing various things in the car, on the radio but the first one I can really pick out is this:

Is this the first time you heard a song by a particular artist or the first pop song you ever heard? I think both are being answered by different people

I'm answering the latter.

It seems FAR more likely without trying to appear cool, doesn’t it?

to appear cool in 1980 I think you had to be into The Jam or The Clash or someone like that, and they certainly weren’t on our radio when I was little. In fact I don’t think I even knew who The Clash were until Should I Stay was re-released in 1991!

I was a bit confused by the original question but it seemed people were eventually going with the latter.

Maybe @POP! Is a lot younger than I thought? Happy quincinera Pop!

I'm sure I heard music as much as anyone else did, although my parents weren't music buffs. They had about 10 LPs, 3 of which were by Barry Manilow. But the first song that I remember jumping out of the murk and my lil brain going "ooh, hello, what's THIS?" was Baggy Trousers. It definitely opened the gate through which I subsequently ran.

The first 'current' song I remember hearing and liking (ignoring any old music I enjoyed through my parents prior etc)

One of my earliest childhood memories was first seeing her perform this on Top of The Pops and falling in love with the song right then and there. <3 I didn't know what the actual lyrics were for ages and used to just sing the "I know-I know-I know-I know" part of the song. :D

If groups count:

I vaguely remember seeing this on a family VHS of some music channel as a kid (The Box perhaps?) and trying but failing to copy the moves in the video. :(:D

This topic makes me feel old.
to be fair I think the ask is "post the first song you remember from any particular artist" rather than "the actual first song you can remember". I'd be concerned if @RJN who's my age couldn't remember any music pre-Cherly :eyes:
