Morning Moopy!

I’m up and about to ice two Christmas cakes. Festive prep starts NOW.

I’ve ridiculously decided this year is going to be all homemade and home grown, right down to the horseradish sauce for the meat eaters’ beef, which is coming from my allotment.

I wish I liked Christmas cake. But the fruit 🤢

Good morning you gorgeous lot. We had a lot of snow yesterday, followed by a lot of rain then frost so it is literally like an ice rink outside and I have places to go today. I may cancel all plans for today if we haven’t had a big thaw since last night. Just getting ready to head out with the dog. Please pray for me staying upright. 🥶
 
This time next week I shall have 18 people staying at the house which I am so excited but also slightly nervous about as it was always old hat but I haven’t had everyone here since Christmas 2019.

I can't stand any form of dried fruit like raisins, so I hate anything that has them.

Tomatoes are amazing.

It's 4°C here. I think that's the highest it's been for at least two weeks. The heating went off about an hour ago and I don't even feel cold yet.
 
I have not done a single bit of Christmas shopping. I guess now is the time to start :(
 
I've got my brother-in-law for secret santa. Straights are so hard to buy for. How am I meant to spend £30 on BUDWEISER?

I have bought one present and that was only because I needed something else from the same shop for the end of November so I bought both at the same time to get a free gift.

I'm currently logged on to Amazon chucking random acceptable stuff into the basket.

Hopefully I've still got some cards left over from last year as I still have to post the distant relatives' ones.
 
Same position for me as the last few years. I'm great at shopping early, and throwing everything in the spare room. Then I look at it all around this time and have a panic attack thinking about starting to wrap it all.

My parents are coming over later and want to go to the markets.. on the weekend before Christmas?!! Wonder how long it’ll take for them to realise it was a bad mistake and we end up in a pub.

Feeling a bit perkier after paracetamol and coffee.

Anything is better than the fever, when I'm half asleep, half awake, slurring random words.
 
I've had a delightful lunch with a dear friend today - has fair recharged the batteries.
 
Moopy I have a question.

I don't have children as you all know.

My older brother has 3.

I buy them each Christmas and birthday presents and until recently also bought my brother presents. I spent far more than I could afford, and in return got little back.

The gifts I was buying my brother he was re gifting. I stopped buying for him. But still bought for his kids and he still bought for me.

He's now said as hes not going to buy for me. But I'm still expected to buy for his kids.

I'm pretty pissed off about this, not because I don't want to buy for his kids, but more the fact that he earns 10x what I do and money is no object for him.

For me to buy for his kids I have to save every month. Surely he could buy me a £25 Amazon voucher?

Am I being petty. I know you'll be honest.
 
It depends how old the kids are. Most of my aunts stopped buying presents for my sister and I around about when we turned ten and we were fine with that.

I'd be mega pissed off if I was you.

But, depending on your relationship with his children, I'd still buy for them. They are children (presumably) and you shouldn't punish them for their father being a tight bastard.
 
Mind you, I bet the kids would love a nice bag of fudge for Christmas. Extra chunks and everything.

I stopped buying presents for all my nieces and nephews after their 18th. Except for my favourite one who I still see all the time. But now I have great nieces as well who I do buy for.

I have a good relationship with them although only see them maybe 4 times a year as they live on the mainland.

The other thing is, these kids want for nothing. They have so much money that anything I do get them means very little anyway. But yes, obviously I wouldn't punish them and would still buy for them.

I'm having to spend the day with them tomorrow for my mum's birthday, first time I've seen my brother for ages, and he's so confrontational that I know he will have a go at me about it In front of everyone.

My nephew is 17, my niece's are 10 and 8 ish 🤔
 
Obviously, when I say that my sister and I were fine with getting fewer presents, this was after being told not to be such little shits by our parents.

Why will he have a go at you? Have you complained about it?

I haven't exchanged presents with either my brother or sister for years - I've only bought for their children.
 
Actually, thinking about this, I'm not sure that I would be mega pissed off if I were you as I said above, OR if I should be more pissed off with my position, as I've essentially been in the exact same position.

Except in my case there isn't a huge disparity in income.

You should be pissed off then. Do your siblings not buy for you?
