Cucumbers may have become a lot of people’s most loved product during lockdown
What? The skin is too coarse, are you serious?

Many moons ago, i worked for a major UK supermarket. I will never forget the day, on Valentines Day, where two early-twenties girls passed through my checkout with nothing more than lingerie and an extra-large cucumber to buy.

Your supermarket sells lingerie? :D

yes I guess they do, but I wouldn’t call those supermarkets

I guess that’s a bit of a difference in terminology, these days the UK has more and more of those colossal airport terminal sized places but we still call them supermarkets. What would you call a Walmart?

Big box stores I guess? But I kind of think of both Walmart and Target as very distinct, both from other places and from each other.

primark seems to be kind of in the middle though, right?

i think Primark (I’ve been away for a while, mind) is just a clothes store!

I guess it’s because Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda etc started out as supermarkets because that’s what you had. But they’ve just grown in physical size and product range and you can get practically anything there now. I suppose we just kept the name Supermarket

I think we should copy the French and call them Hypermarkets :disco:

Nonsensical quantities

I bought some medicated cough sweets. You’re supposed to take 3 sweets, 4-6 times a day. But the box contains 4 little sleeves of 5 sweets, which is totally incompatible.

if I take the minimum (3 sweets x 4), I won’t QUITE have enough for 2 days. If I take the maximum, I won’t use a whole box, I’ll have 2 left over.

I mean sure I can just take 2 later, but they’re medicated - aren’t I supposed to be following the instructions?

:stopthefuck:

I think you can probably play around a bit. It's not like methadone.

Ok another one then
Adverts for smartphone games with some header like “harder than it looks” or “if you can pass you are top 1%”, and the player is deliberately awful.

that’s the sort of reverse psychology you use on a 4 year old

I've developed a pet hate for certain COVID restrictions that i'm fairly sure make absolutely no difference in transmission. They seem a dreadful hangover from the beginning of the pandemic, that haven't been updated to reflect the science as we've learned more about the virus.

For example, I went to the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh last week with my aunt and uncle. Had a suitcase with my as I was getting the train after. Didn't go around as I was just visiting the cafe but I notice that they have a blanket ban on people using the lockers because of COVID. All I could think was that no-one is getting COVID because they used a fucking LOCKER.

Similarly, my friend told me recently that she had asked for a keyboard to use with her laptop when she goes into the office and her work insisted on a shit, folding keyboard that is impossible to use because keyboards are hard to clean and if she left hers in the office someone else might use it.

STOP BEING RIDICULOUS

I’m afraid some of these pointless restrictions (or more like newly adapted habits) are going to remain even after the pandemic. It’s going to be like the restriction on liquids on flights, isn’t it?

At least the restriction of liquids on flights is actually stopping a known terror threat vector though!

Yep, everyone has to take their surface pro and all accessories home every night even if they’re in the office anyway the next day. The idea that it’s somehow less dangerous to walk through rough areas carrying hundreds of pounds of computer equipment than it is to leave it in a closed office where nobody else can touch it is… puzzling.

My aunt's funeral last week. The family weren't allowed* to approach the coffin to pay their final respects at the end of the service, 'due to COVID', despite the fact that THEY FUCKING CARRIED IT IN.

*they still did, obviously

I’m struggling to get my head round where they think the risk is ?!
