All of this feels odd, it already did to some degree when they announced it with the full line-up. I honestly cannot fault Hannah for dropping out after Paul passed away - none of this feels bittersweet, it just doesn't feel "right". But I also get that this is all highly subjective.

On that note: FIRE OUT NOW.
 
It’s just so bloody TWEE

Tina’s heavily layered vocal moments are fun

Nice tribute to Paul but their worst single by far
 
Well I guess if they were going to do something like this then they’ve probably got the tone more or less right.

It’s twee but then S Club 7 were twee so it sounds like them at least.

It’s better than the one GRL did.

The Now Unlimited version sounds more like S Club?

The video's sweetly done, and works quite well as a tribute I think. At least when I could escape my lurking thought that they'd not be doing it if they didn't have a tour to sell

That’s really quite lovely. Never heard the song before so don’t know how it’s different but with that video I think it is a lovely tribute to Paul actually.

Rachel looks like an absolute star, just beautiful

I mean, essentially a slightly less harsh version of this from me.

A fair few people seem to suddenly be seeing S Club’s old material through rose tinted glasses after years of negative comparisons to their contemporaries.

Other than Don’t Stop Moving and a couple of ballads, they have basically always sounded like this.

It's along the lines of the 60s pastichey stuff they sometimes did - particularly on the first album - but your post was inaccurate xx
 
I don't think this sounds that far removed from the sound that they are famous for - certainly amongst the gp.
 
It was a smart choice to revisit the sound of some of their biggest hits (Reach/Bring It All Back) but it's just... not very good.

It seems like it won't be a one-off though so I'm hopeful for better stuff down the line. And the Paul stuff is lovely.

Look it's unfortunate I can't do a post being nice about it without also crapping all over their back cat and GRL, but I honestly don't mind it.

Maybe if this doesn't get any bums in seats for their tour they could put out a cover of 'Ugly Heart' :disco:

Yeah, I don't hate it. They already did pretty much the same video with 'Say Goodbye' (although obviously this one focuses more heavily on Paul) so it didn't move me greatly. But it'd be pleasant enough B-side fodder from the debut album.

Oh god yeah, isn’t it odd that they’ve done two consecutive videos of them looking over old photos/memories with Paul being absent? He was very much edited around in the first one, and now this :(

The moment with Rachel and Paul in the quiet part of the song got me a bit
 
I'm not sure how appropriate it is to thirst over a relatively recently deceased individual but he really looks great throughout that video, esp at 1:13

The song is growing on me slightly 🥴

That is genuinely nice. She has very expressive eyes and it's where being a tad more reserved in her overall demeanour really works.

Yeah, it's a bit :eyes:... the official line seems to be "she's welcome to come back for the projects we have planned"

Let's see if that's still the case when the book comes out
 
It does make me wonder just how bad the blood between Hannah and Simon Fuller is when she’s been practically eradicated from the video.

The video is quite similar to Steps Story of a Heart.

That was written by Benny and Bjorn, this a cover of Now United, WHICH IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

At 1.13 it is Hannah screaming out for more (ooh-ooh).
 
The video is very nicely done. I thought Hannah was obviously quite absent from the old clips for the first half but she popped up a bit more towards the end.
 
So apparently this was originally written for them 20 years ago, which explains why the Now United one “already sounds like an S Club 7 song.”
