Saint Etienne: International (and new single: Glad)

I've Got Your Music is my most played on Apple Music. That definitely play it a lot but it also misses all the times I've played other songs.

Method Of Modern Love, Girl VII, Stormtrooper In Drag, Shower Scene and Fascination are my other most streamed songs.

My library for them is a bit of a mess. 547 songs across all the albums!

Got a 7" of Kiss and Make Up with minor sleeve damage for 99p. Then bought Foxbase Alpha when it was released and started to follow the releases properly. Lost contact during Tiger Bay because my brain was elsewhere but loved Like A Motorway. Thereafter it was always a bit sporadic but I made sure to look in on them and it was never less than interesting. Nothing lasts forever and there's plenty of music which they could reissue. As long as they don't go down the remixes route so much.

They'll reissue you until the cows come home Octophone :D
Oh, I'm sure they will but, please, some useful reissues, not coloured vinyl or something in a pre-order edition of 200 where it turns out 104 of them have been pressed with a Lulu album by accident.

Electronic Sound seven inch arrived today.

It seems they can't quite decide who actually suggested they call it a day. Sarah and Bob both put their hand up for it.

The Glad b-sides are surprisingly low on the anticipated noodle. Theme from Shapiro is an instrumental, but a toe tapping one, and Fire does indeed sound like it was sourced from the sessions for the last album - though was it rejected for having too many words?

And Missing Pieces is properly boppy:

Back in 2021 Martin got :kim: with me when I asked about their backcat going onto digital cos STREAMING DOESN’T PAY THE BILLS (tbh neither does doing sod all with your backcat) but that they were working on getting everything online and had set themselves the deadline of end of 2021.

:WhiffOfMisogyny:

Well this was a NMF surprise:

Bizarre and even more bizarre that it’s credited to Saint Etienne rather than Cola Boy but doesn’t use the Sarah vocal from the Saint Etienne version.

I also don’t see much of a point to that remix…

Oh, apparently it IS the Sarah vocal they've used :D

I didn't pay attention to that at 5:30am, CLEARLY!

I wondered about the Sarah vocal too and decided it WASNT her this morning too

Martin said the DJ requested it.

But it really doesn’t sound like it to me- but I am not at home so can’t check on Nice Price.

I just remember thinking at the time how obviously Sarah the Nice Price version WAS.

They posted this week thanking Radio 6 for keeping Glad on the playlist and Zoe Ball for the first Radio 2 play... they should be all over this, it is so Radio 2 friendly.

Article on the ‘final album’ in the latest Classic Pop

Radio 2 have playlisted bloody CAST, you would think there might be a space for THE ET.

Also not to be demanding but I am feeling ready for another song from the album now.

The article certainly put me in the mood for the album. My main takeaway from the interview is that ‘Sound Of Water’ is Sarah’s favourite album, Pete’s is ‘Tales From Turnpike House’ and Bob’s is ‘The Night’.

That changes a lot, though- it was Good Humor for Bob at least for some time.

I mean all it took was for them to say the new album shows “their love of four-on-the-floor beats and an Italo house piano remains in tact…” to pique my interest.

My fave album swings between Turnpike and ‘Words And Music’ though I’ve a soft spot for ‘Tiger Bay’ too as that’s the first one I really hammered.

I want to do all of them. Absolutely no need to, of course :D

Oh hold on, I’m in Tokyo during the dates so it’s a no anyway.

No Liverpool for the signing/Q&A either 😞

Manchester, London and Brighton are three of them and I can’t remember the others

Unembeddable clip of Take Me To The Pilot on their Instagram. It sounds like a dark clubby banger. Feels like they are echoing early Et with this final victory lap.

Also a little bit trancey.

I really would have liked this album out by now, especially with the weather being so blooming gorgeous.

I liked the snippet. It is giving a bit of a throwback to Et days of yore. I’m going to say they’re 2/2 for this album so far.

I like it a lot, not on the level of Glad mind, which has to be my most played song this year.
