Sam Ryder - There's Nothing But Space, Man! (album out now)

He's doing a SIGNING at my local HMV. Being a local star, this is appreciated, considering most local X-Factor rejects rarely if never come back to appear in the town.

As tempted as I am, I don't really want the album.
 
I'm not sure I am up for a full album either but Put A Light On Me is pretty good, if not particularly unique.

It is a shame that More had already been released pre-Spaceman. It stands out as his best song for me, and doesn't sound too trend chasing. Maybe they should have just tried pushing it again anyway.

Can we have a new one for the the album anyway please? Pingu has posted a review of the album in another thread, and he's going to be busy over Christmas, so perhaps better to contain it in one new place?
 
He's got something of the Jessie Js about him and an entire album is too much, but I really like some of the less bombastic moments; 'Lost in You' in particular is lovely.

Edit: that Sigala track after 'Lost In You' is a bit jarring.

This is going to send me down a right rabbit hole now, but I don't think so.

ABBA didn't, Cliff didn't (either time), Bucks Fizz didn't... I'm not sure I can think of anybody who might even have come close. I'm sure there's someone completely random who has managed it though.
 
OK actually I've found one. It's a bit of a cheat, but it technically fits the bill of a Eurovision act whose next album after competing in the contest went to #1 in the UK.
 
Great result for him. Streaming is rather poor though (700 sales out of the 16k total) - next week will be brutal unless last minute Xmas gifts hold him up.
 
Well obviously by 2022 standards. How does it stack against the bigger debuts of the year? (Discounting phenoms like Taylor Swift)
 
It’s ok. Steps did 24k for example, which Sam should do a similar amount to (as physicals are likely rather front loaded). By no means a bad result, but it’ll be a long way to any certification I imagine.
 
Obviously this is a reflection of sales rather than him (and he's on 16.5k to SZA at #2 with 8.3k, so he's got a solid lead at this stage), but it's a depressing amount for two weeks before Christmas.

I will be really interested how his sales hold up during the week. Streams are minimal as it is and I don't see why they should spike now, and his hugely long presale period together with a lack of a hit for months surely must mean he's a lot more frontloaded than a lot of debut acts.
 
#1 should be fine, SZA and Taylor should finish mid to late teens and he should easily clear 20k.

He did an "impromptu" gig in our town square this week. He really drew in the mums, but not the scientists.
 
It’s impressive that he achieved #1 after a) never believing it was possible and b) having a strong fanbase that supported him mid-week because he wouldn’t have done it without that sales boost. A huge feat for any new music artist to have a debut #1 album. A #2 debut single and #1 debut album since May is massive.
