I guess the question is how far he'd have fallen without the NYE promo and the new version.

#1 on sales, re-entry at #62 on streaming.
 
He wasn’t there to promote his album but the songs did get more downloads. It’s inevitable there will be a drop at some point but it’s 3 weeks longer in the top 10 than most people expected. His tour basically sold out so there were benefits from it.

He's done way better than expected, and earned every bit of it. You can't begrudge him it. I was beginning to rapidly lose interest in him, but that NYE show really was good stuff.

He's sure to get a Brit nomination for Song of the year (or whatever the category is called), isn't he? I wonder if he can snag any more?

I get confused with that one and the eligibility for it, and how it's been renamed.

I don't think British Act (or whatever it's called now the gendered categories have gone) is entirely out of the question.
 
Apparently the nominations are out next week, so we'll soon find out, anyway.
 
His chart run (1 - 6 - 10 - 7) is very similar to Kylie's Disco (1 - 5 -10 - 7). That fell to #19 in week 5.
 
Have we ever seen him in the same room as Kylie?

Rising Star is for artists that haven’t had a top 20 debut album or 2 top 20 singles iirc. That one has already been awarded.

I’m unsure what the nomination period is for the rest of the awards but if it falls right I guess Sam would be eligible for New Artist. I wasn’t sure whether British Single is the top 10 best selling of the year or whatever.
 
It used to be quite strictly for the top ten biggest selling British singles of the year but it’s much more fluid now.

Not sure whether he’d be eligible for British Artist as I believe they need to have an album out within the eligibility period for that (which used to cut off at the end of November but that might not be the case any more).

Fair enough. I expect his record label would want him to be eligible for a nomination anyway.

Didn't they change the rules two years ago for Rina - and now she's up for new artist two years later, nearly three years after her first album?
 
Sam’s been named MTV’s Push Artist of the Month (weird name but whatever).

The album sales were really close together.
 
What does push artist mean? Just that MTV will be featuring him heavily?

It looks like they nominate an artist each month and feature them then at the end of the year the winner gets the “Best Push” award at the EMAs.

#35 this week now on 51,000 units (approx). The sales and downloads are pretty good but he’s being obliterated on streaming.
 
For him to still be top 40 after six weeks with minimal streaming and no current hit single is impressive in itself to be fair. Should get to Silver now.

Less Mormon, more (definitely IMO) in recovery. I’ve decided that I’d rather have the constant cheer and overuse of “stoked” than him falling over cunted in puddles and ruining his nice hair, or indeed constantly scowling and complaining. I don’t especially want the album based on a quick flick through but I’m delighted for him that it’s done as well as it has and I still love Space Man

I think it’s on 52900 - 53000 sales (approx). It’s #57 this week and #67 has 1806 sales so I guessed 1900.
 
Fell off the album chart last week. #32 on sales only this week, but I'd be surprised if that hit four figures. Apparently the OCC confirmed sales of just under 58k last week, so he'll hit silver very soon, which lines up nicely with Eurovision fever building, the UK announcement and his tour.
 
It says a lot about the sales market that it’s sold 58k but there aren’t another 2,000+ sitting in shops across the country to get it over the shipments threshold.

Is it still a thing that the label has to claim it? Perhaps they are choosing their moment.
 
I think they’re automatic now, but I’m under the impression they are now sales related, not shipment related like they were prior? I guess with the majority of sales being non physical it makes it easier to track actual units rather than just commercial shipments.

Seems to be, yes - from the BPI

When the release in question has reached the appropriate level of sales as measured by the Official Charts Company, titles are now 'automatically certified' by the BPI.

So presumably it doesnt matter how many are sitting in shops. And I guess in the sense that's good in the sense that all those unsold copies sitting in the HMV browsers aren't counted any more.
 
Although what sales and certifications mean when labels these days can just choose which compilation to attribute streams and therefore sales to (Michael Jackson this week with Numbers Ones losing out to The Essential and falling off the chart, Madonna with The Immaculate Collection losing out to Finally Enough Love a few months back) is quite the moot point.

Not related to his album but bumping this as Sam has a collaboration with Brian May for the new Ted Lasso. It references Freddie Mercury throughout the episode hence the band’s sound without it being a cover. He puts Mae Muller to shame with those vocals :eyes:
