The top of his claw is still intact, it's the underside of it that's hanging off. He was just lay on the floor with that leg uppermost so I sat next to him and was stroking his head and making soothing noises but the moment he noticed the nailclippers in my hand he started growling. Having snapped loads of nails myself I know that getting rid of the hanging bit will be painful but it soon gets better after that's done but I've no way to explain it to the dog. His claws are really weird, they don't wear down much but when they get big the outside of it just peels off leaving a large hollow claw on the floor and a smaller one from inside it on his toe so I've never had to clip his nails like I used to do with Bexley. I think that's why he's so scared of the nailclippers, he doesn't know what they're for.
