Maybe there will be a Russian knock-off version

Polina Gagarina IS Poor Dear Pamela

I wonder what the plan is going forward? I assume there isn't anything properly new ready to go, considering she's hardly not massively prolific in terms of recording, and has just come off the back of decent sized tour.

I reckon rereleasing/promoting Hypnotized wouldn't be a bad move.

"Hypnotized" isn't really very good, but I do imagine it would have slightly more commercial legs than anything from HANA

Maybe she just digs out her campest tits-out past glories instead. "Lover" would be totally Tik-Tokable.

Id totally go Hypnotized again. It did pretty well stream wise for an artist of her stature and even if it didn’t do anything it makes the most sense at a bash come late Feb/March once this dies down. Logistically it’s probably a bit hard to rush too much out, given she only had an album six months ago. I guess if this cements her as a bit more of a known legacy act then that does the trick as well, not that she has struggled with touring significantly the past few years anyway.

here's what she said to Forbes in an interview out last week

“Happily and maybe in a slightly serendipitous fashion, I was already planning an album that was kind of like the albums I used to make. It suits me better to just go with my gut, rather than what I think people think I should be doing. I am ready to return to the dancefloor anyway, to be honest.”
Ellis-Bextor says that a new album is in the works under her music label Polydor Records, but she is not completely certain it will be ready to be released this year. “I’ve always been with the belief that it has to be the right album, not the quickest album.”

it's great news that she's back with Polydor. the budget/push will increase significantly. I wonder if that's a very recent development.

This is up to 165 spins on US pop radio. Takes about 210-220 to make the top fifty, so given she gained 28 yesterday she may well slide into the top fifty this week. They aren’t huge figures but it’s a start and all helps, as it must have a chance of taking off even just a bit there given how well it’s doing on streaming there.

I also wonder if part of the deal was for her to go back to pop/dance too though I can’t imagine her doing anything she didn’t want to at this stage.

breaks top 20 on global for the first time today at #19 :disco:

also up to 575k UK so more best days ahead at the weekend, but highly unlikely to get #1 with Noah still growing (up to almost 750k today)

On an unrelated but totally related note, why is Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten at No.16 on Spotify? Is it a similar reason?

Unofficially at #50 on US pop radio. It’s still listed as Gold (I believe this is recurrent), but as it never charted on the format originally it should get reset to current and officially appear soon with luck.

Either way it all counts so at least it is gaining traction on radio which is a big chart of the Hot 100.

And :disco: at being up to #58 on the Hot 100. How fabulous.

Be interesting to see if it helps close the gap, given she’s already doing so well without it.

It was also track one on throwback Thursday yesterday (despite being #2 in the current chart!) and seems to now be right up all older playlists so they are supporting it well overall.

Up to #12 in the official Aussie chart, and #15 in NZ now. First top twenty hit in either since 2002 :o

#19 in Germany, coming for its previous peak of #11.

I mean, it's a shot for her to be back with a major label with a proper budget. I'm sure she jumped at the chance rather than being "nah I want to spend my own money doing coffee table albums that spends one week on the charts".

Down to #3 in the UK but actually increased "sales" by over 30% so she's not done yet. 57k - might have been enough to get #1 in another week :disco:

this week beginning today is her best shot but Noah is 180k ahead today so it's looking super unlikely she can get the #1. but going back to #2 and beating her original sales (yes yes incompatible formats etc) is still a super slay. I really hope she can use this momentum to go a bit more all-out with an album campaign than she has since... 2007.

I've been playing her back cat a lot and it's just way, way higher quality than I really remembered. a queen. I think we should do a big MOOPY'S FAVOURITE SOPHIE SONGS vote personally.

Might be a very dumb question, but I vaguely remember someone mentioning Rosamund could be nominated for an Oscar…would this be eligible at all or does it miss the cut off/an old song isn’t allowed etc?

It’s best Original song, which this isn’t.

It needs to be a brand new song from the past 12 months, not one written and released over 20 years ago. :D

It doesn't have to be from the last 12 months, although obviously most of the time it probably will be.

But I think a song which is older than 12 months, but was written for the film, and hadn't been used in any other way would still be eligible.

So for example if a film took years to come to fruition, but a song was written for it originally, and not released or performed before the eventual release, it should still be fine.

650k yesterday was its biggest day so far :disco: and she's up 1 spot to a new peak of 14 on global

That's good. I was concerned that this week may be where she levelled out and dropped below last week, so the clock towards ACR began ticking. But hopefully not if she's above last Friday.

did we know she's the support act for the Human League's UK arena tour later this year?

She's busy, isn't she? A European tour in March, several festivals over the summer, headlining Birmingham Pride (at least), and those support arena slots in December. And I imagine all of that was booked way before MOTD took off. Apart from Pride perhaps, and it's not like she wouldn't have got that anyway - it's just that she'll be a lot more relevant to people under 40.

Number 26 in the US today. Im now going to be disappointed if it’s not a big hit

I’d imagine team Sophie are prob very keen for her to release new music like NOW
