She's busy, isn't she? A European tour in March, several festivals over the summer, headlining Birmingham Pride (at least), and those support arena slots in December. And I imagine all of that was booked way before MOTD took off. Apart from Pride perhaps, and it's not like she wouldn't have got that anyway - it's just that she'll be a lot more relevant to people under 40.

I’ve said this before but the Kitchen Discos totally changed her trajectory. It wasn’t calculated at all (which is perhaps why it worked) but fuck me, it did her the world of good.

Is that US possible now? I presume airplay is holding it back?
I think it’s totally possible. 26 is Spotify. It’ll take literally months for airplay to catch up, but I think it’ll happen. The lack of excitement over Dua Lipa’s new music probably helps

:D!

I'm sure the undeniable existence of this binary choice will be what makes Murder a US smash
Dua brought disco-pop back to US radio and the general public just will never care about Houdini :D

She was there for us all in our hour of need, and sung her way into the nation's hearts as a result. 2020's Vera Lynn.

It was an absolute stroke of genius and one where everything aligned and came together.

Yep it should easily slide into the official top 40 on Sunday’s chart given its increases. Appearing now on ‘mock up‘ on Adult Contemporary as well, so starting to get some airplay traction. How utterly fabulous.

Oh it took a fourteen year break, that’s why. Ignore me :D

Not Sophie Ellis-Bextor breaking the US market in her mid-40s :o

Ok ok, it will be a one-off but still.

Into the top 40 on US pop radio today as well. Should officially enter the chart on Sunday at about #36/#37 based on its tracking :disco:

She's been booked to perform at this year's BRIT Awards :disco:
this is honestly a bit insane. the kind of treatment you'd expect a national treasure like Kylie to get, not someone who was only really truly successful for a short period of time and has been quite niche interest only for most/all of the last 20 years...

not that I'm complaining :disco: here for the UK collectively atoning for sleeping on Sophie for so long!

Kylie's apparently performing at the BRITs as well.

It makes sense to be fair. Haven't their ratings been in freefall of late? They're never going to get Gen Z watching terrestrial again, so they might as well pander to the ageing queens. :disco:

I've not bothered watching the BRITS in years so one more viewer here !

This gained 149 spins on pop radio today, which is bloody huge. It is at a point now in the US than rather doing well (incredibly for Soph) it may actually properly explode completely :disco:

oh, this performance takes me back to 2005! The setting, the effort, the judges half-arsed clapping along, and the audience looking like they haven't been stuck 6 hours inside a studio filming the show. I love Sophie.

Why do people in their late 40s (my cousin) not remember this song? I showed her this the other day and it was like she'd just flown in from Neptune or something

I thought it was quite massive at the time, maybe not? I dunno

the contestant is useless naturellement but this was still a lot of fun

Yes, the contestant was dreadful, how did she get on whatever show that is!

Also the table accidentally breaking under the weight of the dancers was very appropriate to the Kitchen Disco ethos.

She reigned it in a bit here but Sophie has gotten prone to talking through some of her songs which I wish she’d cut out but lovely to see her embracing the opportunities the song is bringing her again.

Up 152 spins today (whatever that means?)
