God, why would you think that?

it's many observations and quotes that really made me arrive at that (lots of mood-related things as well as depression). That was before any recent events but seeing those reinforced that idea. There are other figures in the entertainment industry who have it and manage; obviously Enya is very private about most of her life outside of music, and I'd guess it's partly down to this and not wanting conditions to interfere with her career too much.

I agree. With such sensitivity, a difficult character, and perfectionism in her art, she has all the prerequisites for this... I suppose the flip side of genius always brings a lot of risks. All that's left is to wish her health and strength so she can live just the way she wants

Oh the thought wasn't from that video alone (that 'yelp' thing I notice some Irish folk ladies naturally do in high-energy performance haha)

but even if she's joining in confidently, the agitation and restlessness in that situation is not her baseline state (it's probably exacerbated by the expectation to perform, and alcohol, which can deplete medication such as anticonvulsants, so they're less effective). Also she could tolerate more alcohol at the time of Watermark in her 20s, but in her 60s even a small amount could trigger that hypomania.

Science aside, Enya's trying to harmonise confidently, but I couldn't say she was comfortable or even stable at the time. I hope she still experiences times where things don't feel overwhelming or miserable.

What is interesting is that she doesn't let go of her glass, whether during the song 'California Dreamin'' or during this one.

I can't tell if it's out of worry that someone would spike it if left unaccompanied, or more like 'I need this near to keep me going for the night'.

When people mention The Wombles in relation to Orinoco Flow (since Orinoco was the name of a Womble ) I wonder if Enya watched the show or read the books (first was published 1968) or had ever been reminded of the character when they were writing the song.

I agree with that, not judging her. Sadly it's a cultural thing they drink socially after age 18 quite often (most white Brits are worse than the Irish about that though). But obviously she's not driving anywhere and extended family wouldn't judge her for it. And it definitely seems like Eithne’s sisters look out for her ♡

I wonder if Leo and maybe his siblings didn't drink because some man in the family was an alcoholic? That was the case with Nicky Ryan and siblings I think.

Enya was looking back at this lovely late 90s picture of her auntie Rosemarie, herself and the 3rd lady (I think son/daughter shared the photo a few years ago?).

Enya now is probably older than her aunt in this picture (who still looked fine for 60-something; she passed away at 76 in 2009)

I don't know if anyone else here has done this (maybe with other artists?) but do you ever imagine going back to a point in Enya's career and imagining yourself as a friendly acquaintance who somehow has a lot of background knowledge about her up to the present-day, telling bits about the future?

For example 1985 her, talking about the music, maybe popular culture, and that there's no frog prince in her future, but she does buy a castle and own a house in the south of France

Enya is watching Strictly (movie week) and liked that there were two Julie Andrews films (Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music), Pretty Woman and Grease. John Travolta in the lift comes to mind.

Enya was reading about one of Naomi Judd's daughters talking about her late mother recently; it reminded Enya of the time they sat together.

Enya is temporarily forgetful and might need the odd few prompts as demonstrated by her younger sister in that clip, but she can remember the niche things in favourite movies, and every sensory aspect from the recording days of each of her pieces.

Many depressed people can hide it quite well, especially in public-facing careers. If you search 'this is what depression looks like' you will see so many smiles

As for Enya, she's probably not deeply depressed all the time, but she did say "depression sets in and I go home".

Enya watched some of the livestream of the RTÉ Orchestra concert in Donegal last night, and though the atmosphere was beautiful, she was glad she wasn't there (it was Moya's family plus Bartley and his wife). Being livestreamed breaking down at the funeral for Moya (even if only for a few seconds till someone thought 'let's move her out of shot..') was enough for En.
Enya thought Mairéad sang/played and looked wonderful though, and had a cute little feature towards the end.
