Sunday is coming home

You know, sometimes I wonder if the reason I have to fight my damn hair so much is it's meant to curl, lol

Shit.

Walking along the coastal path between Teignmouth and Dawlish. The path is quite high above the sea, with steps down every 100m or so. Tide comes in quite close, so only little sections of beach at intervals. Noticed what looked like an older person sitting in the water, only about a few metres out - you could see her chest and shoulders. She was wearing some sort of blouse which seemed odd.

As I got closer, a f/m couple coming the other way were clearly looking down at her. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but clearly looking down at her. He ran down the stairs and over to the woman, but turned away, shrugging at the woman. She then ran down. As I got to the top of the stairs she was calling up to me to help.

She said that they had asked the woman if she needed help, but she refused it. He was on the phone to 999 at that point. The tide was coming in all the time, so I said we needed to get her out, regardless of what she said. So me and the guy get her out and carry her up to the back of the beach where there are long concrete benches. She was fully dressed - a blouse, jeans and trainers, but had a swimming costume on under her blouse.

She kept saying she felt sick but never was. I thought we should put her in the recovery position initially, but she said she wanted to be upright (I guess because she felt sick) so we sat her up but had to sort of hold her up as she kept slumping forward at first. It took about 30 minutes for the lifeguard to come and get her - the nearest road is about 2km away I guess at that point.

She told us her name after about 10 minutes, but was very confused - I asked if there was anyone we could call for her. She at first said there wasn't anyone, but then said nobody would care.

After the lifeguard took her, I walked back, and thought I'd walk to the lifeboat station as its only around the corner from our Airbnb. I guessed by that point she'd probably be gone as it took me about 30 minutes I guess, but the ambulance was still there. I saw one of the RNLI guys who recognised me and come to speak to me. He said she was doing okay, but had early stages of hypothermia and probably wouldn't have survived much longer had we not got her out. Her husband was with her at that point, and apparently she has multiple sclerosis.

I've had a few gins already.
The life went out of me reading that a bit. Lolly, massive kudos to you. All the best to the poor woman. :(

Wading in on a thread without reading up first - guilty

Good work @lolly, sounds like quite the ordeal!

As to "not vaccinated" guy, I'd be taking that as a very useful sign to never speak to him. If he's so much of a cunt about that, bottom dollar says he's got all sorts of other shitty opinions and bores people to death about how he made sure to use a PEN when voting for Brexit.

You do you Cloud, but you *can* get a reverse perm from a hairdresser if you want to. I did when I was 17 and loved it. My nan was devestated but I just had to break it to her that I wasn't *actually* Little Boy Blue

Well done @Cloud, you’ve done your first Mel! :disco:

Maybe I'll want to do Mel again :side-eye:

I shall add that to the list of options while procrastinating about booking one :)

Good grief, that's a LOT. Well done. Poor soul sounds as if she's not all there.

Well I'm not sure - loads of unanswered questions. Two fishermen just along the beach said they had noticed her swimming well out in the sea about an hour before - but fully clothed then?!

And they said they had seen her sitting where we found her about 20 minutes before - but they didn't think anything of it? Although I guess at that stage, had she not moved, she would have perhaps been above the shoreline.

She also had a beach bag about 50m further along the beach which had a towel in it.

I know MS can cause brain fogs, and apparently confusion is an early symptom of hypothermia as well, so who knows what the real story is?

Didn't even know I HAD curls to begin with, just had "brush hair and try to make it behave" ingrained from childhood but starting to wonder now :P

How do you even make it do it while appearing tidy, baffles me, people with curls were always a MYSTERY

I hated my curls. Lopped them all off for a couple of years. Then tries to regrow them and realised I'd become Michael Bolton :(

It is unbelievably hard to do alternative reactions on iOS before the cut/copy menu highlights the "like" text and gets in the way

Well, I thought WooferTart was DEAD a couple of minutes ago. It turns out she was in an unbelievably deep sleep and didn't respond well to me waking her by prodding her in the stomach.
