Sunday is terrorised by rats

Rats and mice are quite different, but the most important thing is that they're both wonderful creatures with a lot to offer

I always wish I'd had mice or rats growing up, though I did have a lovely gerbil at one point :disco:

Work is so quiet (for a change) but I’m SO BORED and don’t finish until 8 :(

I've had pet mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, dogs, tortoise, snake, stick insects, a budgie and a kakariki, all of them after I moved out.

I blame my mother because the only pet that was allowed in the house when I was a child was the family budgie and he couldn't even fly. I tried to teach him to fly by standing a couple of feet away from his cage and gently throwing him towards it. Found him dead under the cage a couple of days later, I had nothing to do with it but my brother still calls me budgie-killer when he gets drunk.

What a shocking tale. THROWING AN INNOCENT BUDGIE TO DEATH! :tongueout:

Fun fact, I was convinced until quite late in my life that a mouse is just a female rat.

I just bought a lovely slice of homemade banana cake from the event I've just been to, only to discover it's full of disgusting raisins and sultanas 😭

I love pet birds and always wanted a kakriki. But I accidentally killed my pet cockatiel and decided no more birds for me

Much as it pains me to disagree with the LOVELY SUSIE-KLARA squirrels are cunts and I hate them. One BIT ME once. I am currently taking revenge by spraying WD40 on the bird feeder pole. Take THAT!

Not nice to say it but it only bit you because it hates you. Something to do with NIFFY DISCHARGE I’m told

Now I'm not saying that I'm glad dearest Ridley's gone but we get a lot more squirrel action in the back garden nowadays. They're so cute, especially the one I've named Tatty Tail, he (or she) isn't as graceful as the others and will often fall off the hawthorn tree onto the shed roof. Now that we've got a plastic shed he just lands splayed out, slides down and falls off the edge. Mr F says there's a new little one but I haven't seen him yet, only the usual three.

I've been told mainlanders don't like grey squirrels and see them as vermin, is this correct?

We don't get greys here. We only have reds and the whole of the island population adores them... because...look

If you catch grey squirrels in a humane trap, it’s illegal to release them. You have to kill them and I recommend the edge of a spade as the best tool for the job.

Never get a Kakariki! Rico learned to say Pretty Rico and Pretty boy, that was cute, it was the magpie noises that he picked up quickest and would sit there squawking magpie noises for hours on end. I still get a shiver of hate when I hear a real magpie squawking. He was also a nasty vicious little bastard, I have permanent scars from his attacks! He even conned us into buying him. Every Sunday we'd go to the Garden Centre for breakfast and take spawn into the pet section, he was in the aviary and he'd fly to the front and act really cute and loving whenever we went over so we spent £170 on a cage and brought him home. Worst decision ever, we all hated that bird and he lived nearly twenty years!

Are they all known to be difficult and noisy or did you get unlucky? I had no idea they lived that long.

I knew this because one time I thought we had a squirrel stuck in the loft so I bought the cage and then read the rules inside the box about killing them. Had I caught a squirrel I'd have driven it up to Rivington and let it go in the woods, damn the consequences. Turned out it was mice in the loft and luckily I have no qualms about poisoning mice.

I didn’t know that the IoW only has reds. Exciting :disco:
Yep yep, it's a huge thing over here and one that half the locals use as a reason not to get a fixed link to the mainland, in case the greys come over on foot and kill the reds 🤦🏻‍♀️

The reds aren't nearly as confident as greys tho. You really have to earn their trust

Oh. My. God. I could never. It would have to live with me as a pet forever.
