Morning loves.

Another day of “just about surviving” ahead :disco:

I’m going for a run, a swim and then cooking a roast at my Mum’s whilst watching the football. I’m so butch.

Morning dearies

where does the time go? I had a few online lessons, went grocery shopping, played a bit of Animal crossing and watched Drag Race. Sleepy...

have all your classes been converted to online?

and unrelated, do you still live by Daikokucho?

No, it's sort of down to the students. I've noticed a bit of an upturn since New Year, but that might just be the holidays messing things up. On Friday I had 4 Zoom lessons and one face-to-face, meaning I had to go in :manson:

And no, I moved about a year ago, now I'm in Morinomiya with a few of Osaka Castle and the park :disco: I feel like Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters

ugh! well it's always good to get out of the house for a bit. look at you climbing the Osaka echelons. it must be lovely living by the park now, wasn't much nice to look at in the old area

except I bet you don't shop at Tamade anymore :(

I know you get asked this a lot, but isn't it just FREEZING in the water? How do you not just freeze up??

Actually I wasn't living in Daikokucho, they just put us there for the training period. My actual apartment was in Abiko, a few stations south of Tennoji.
I think I've oversold my position, I'm in an old danchi but it's been renovated inside (on the cheap...). I've got a pretty decent sized apartment and it's not breaking the bank. But I AM in the worst financial position I've been in during my Japan time...

I never shopped there :D I'm usually going to Kohyo. There's a Life near here but the people there are rude and awful

I get asked it nearly every time! It's about getting used to it. It takes a lot of building up to be able to do it for an extended period of time and that's also where people go wrong. A friend came for his first ever winter dip today, threw himself in, despite me telling him not to, and got straight out, almost in tears at how cold it is. Get in slowly, breathe deeply, gradually and don't try and stay in too long- I did 7 minutes today. I'm addicted to the after shock- I love the feeling of being properly freezing, it's invigorating.

In a wetsuit, by the way, it's absolutely fine, and in these lockdown times there are SO MANY people swimming in winter now it's crazy. But most of them are in wetsuits. And that's cheating ;)

YOU DON'T NEED GOOSE FAT WHEN YOU'VE GOT YOUR OWN, LOVES :disco:

I do like to keep such things to myself. You know me, NOT ONE FOR THE ATTENTION

Kohyo looks expensive! how can you not want to shop at Tamade, it's great for a budget (and tinnitus) :o

I've never been sea swimming in the UK but I've been in a few natural pools elsewhere, where the water comes down from the mountains and so is just as cold.

I don't massively enjoy it, but by god it gets rid of a hangover.

I did the cold water plunge at the Gellert baths in Budapest and I'm never getting in anything colder than piss again.

I did a Polar Plunge when I was in Antarctica and I sure was glad to get out again.

How many piss queens are there on Moopy? Have we ever had a poll? I always cast my eye around the work office to see who’d be into it. I bet it’s loads.

I also find it ASTONISHING when people say they’ve never swam in the sea in the UK. A friend of mine who grew up here has never even been in and I was absolutely AGOG.

In the summer, I’m rarely out of the sea. My favourite thing to do is to swim to places- so if I’m going to visit my friend who lives at the other end of the seafront or to a pub up that end, I’ll pack my waterproof swim bag and swim there and (often) swim back.

I did it as a child, frequently.

I dont even take my SHOES off on a beach now though, never mind reveal any flesh above the ankle.

I fell into the sea off a pier on some bit of Scotland - possibly Islay - when I was 3. That was plenty.

I'm not sure I've ever swam in the UK sea, I've certainly been in pretty much everytime I visit a beach, even if its just dipping my toes in.

I find it so bizarre, but then I guess I’ve been brought up with it a part of my life, albeit my parents weren’t massive sea swimmers...

There seems to be a lot of people sea swimming today. I could barely make it to BOOTS THE CHEMIST all wrapped up it’s so cold

It's reasonably mild here today

Currently walking behind a man in shorts.

I've been working all fucking morning. Sigh. I wish I was in the sea.

I have never swum in the sea as an adult. Even when I did live on the coast. I guess I know my own limitations.

My nearest sea was at Blackpool when I was a child. It was literally an open sewer, we used to paddle in it but nothing more than that because the deeper it got, the more toilet roll and other undesirable things there were floating around. I almost drowned in the sea at Paignton when I was four so I've always been afraid of water (actually I'm terrified), I can swim if I need to but I've never found swimming fun or even slightly enjoyable. When we had a private pool at a holiday cottage once I would just float on my back in the shallow end while spawn and Mr F swam around me.

I’ve only been in the Bournemouth sea twice and they were both drunken skinny dips.

I grew up around 15 minutes away from the stunning beach at Portnoo in Donegal so was always at the beach and swimming in the sea. Not in Winter, right enough. We used to have our swimming lessons at school down at the sea.

it’s not that pricey, I think Life is more expensive. Not like I’m going to Takashimaya or anything!

Tamade is too NOISY
