Well concert tickets are too expensive as well and need to come down.

I was considering buying the album today in HMV when I wandered into town to go to Tesco, but decided I wouldn't contribute to this nonsense.

Apparently EVIL Taylor’s grip on the vinyl market isn’t allowing for other vinyl releases.

Saint Etienne’s manager told me a little while ago that they’d had to delay releasing their album that turned out to be The Night simply because they couldn’t get it pressed. It’s why that and the recent album were relatively close together in the end- they took the first opportunities available to them.

That really is wholly ridiculous, but you can see why

Yes, the album was originally announced as being called “20 Years Old” and then she changed the title but not until after the competition

I think this is a pretty mature take. It acknowledges the reception hasn't been great while also playing it forward - she's right in the implication that Reputation was pretty unpopular when it was released. Not sure this one has the same staying power but we'll see!

This sounds weird but it's probably a bit of relief as an artisté when you're on a big high career wise if there is some sort of discourse/discussion about your work. Her previous album was a bit more of an ARTISTIC STATEMENT and more to discuss musically (even to critique) but it feels like it came and went happily.

I'm trying to remember if there were ever rules in the album chart in the UK for the number of variants or formats.

There definitely was for singles

There were no rules for singles until 1990 when a maximum of 5 formats was brought in; so that was a 7", 12", cassette, CD and one other. That was then cut to 4 in, I think, 1992. The last, truly ridiculous, cut was to 3 formats and one of them HAD to be a 2 song CD single (or something silly like that) but by this time, the physical single was in its death throes.

reputation was not badly received though. Look What You Made Me Do was #1. the following singles were chosen safely and performed pretty well. the album got an average of 7s and Bs from critics and opened with her fourth straight 1m+ sales week in the US. it went 3x, 5x and 7x platinum in the UK, Aus and US. it contains many longtime fan favourites like Delicate, Getaway Car and Don't Blame Me. I wouldn't say it was pretty unpopular!

anyway I know she was just giving an example of how perspectives change. but I'd be surprised if the perspective on this one shifted in over the next decade because musically it's not up to much.

I feel that she's inhaling the copium and saying the right things for now but she's Taylor Swift. she made folklore as a direct response to Lover not being nominated by the Grammys! of course she's mad as hell this one isn't getting the acclaim!

The vinyl situation is always being blamed on something - it was Record Store Day, then it was Adele, then it was Record Store Day again, then it was Taylor Swift and now it's Taylor Swift again. The truth is that the major labels won't invest and open a pressing plant so worldwide production is limited. If you order a million records, that's going to take time.

I have to say, I’m really enjoying this album. As I said before, it’s not what she promised, but as a laid back, 70s vibe, it’s working for me. It’s definitely my favourite since evermore, possibly folklore.
