Tennis 2025

The most British players that the main draw of Wimbledon has had in about forty years (in part thanks to some very generous wildcards - EVERY wildcard on the men's side being a Brit, really?) and I don't see any making the last 16 now that the draw is out.

If Emma gets through her first match, she's then facing someone who won a title on grass last week (plus on course for Aryna in the third round, but I don't think that will end up mattering), and Draper could be against Bublik in the third round. So much for the good news of avoiding Alcaraz/Sinner until SF thanks to his top 4 seeding.

Some of the wildcards for the men seem a bit questionable, Jay Clarke, really? Sure he won his first challenger title a few weeks ago but he's been in poor form for quite a while. Same goes for Harriet Dart on the women's side.

I'm intrigued by Raducanu - Xu, it might not be the cakewalk many are expecting for Emma.

Pegula beat Swiatek in straight sets 6-4 7-5 to take the title at Bad Homburg. she's not the flashiest player but that was a very strong performance.

Two good finals on the women’s side yesterday, both the gen now in Bad Homburg and the gen next in Eastbourne.

In brighter news, Sonay Kartal takes put Jelena Ostapenko in 3 sets! She played a good match. Jelena left her brain in the locker room once again.
Just came here to post this... only saw the final set but Penko didn't seem to be trying too hard lol.

A shame for Ons, has it largely been injuries that have seen her form slip so badly?

Injuries have played a big part, but she's also never been the same player after losing to Marketa in the 2023 final.

Ostapenko hurt her ankle last week in Eastbourne. Not sure if it was that or the heat but she really didn’t bother to take any extra steps today.

Norrie is quite fun to watch. he doesn't fuck around on serve, he keeps the play moving fast. he just attempted an underarm first serve :o :disco: some fantastic aces too.

She was complainging to the umpire about branding violations, or that's what the commentators were suggesting... like she has sponsorships and can't be seen with other brands or something

My first thought was, shouldn't her head be in the game? Who thinks about these things in the heat of battle?

This is an incredibly messy match from Carlos.

His serve has DESERTED him.

And what a stunning break back!

Alcaraz needs to shut this game down because he’s going to tire himself out for the later rounds…

He looks like he’s struggling with Fognini’s spinning backhand too.

He should have won the second set and should have been serving for the match by now.

He’s lucky there taking the set and avoiding another tie break. His tennis is obviously better but he looks tiny out there, he seems to have only a tenth of the power of Fognini right now.

These unforced errors from him are honestly ridiculous. His drop shot has got him out of some scrapes.

This match is a slog. I agree with Cotter that the best points have come from Fognini.

It’s weird because Fognini is playing like he doesn’t give a fuck - spectacular shot here, terrible error there.

But the energy levels are so far apart. Normally you’d say the longer this goes on it’s Alcaraz’s to win, but here I’m not sure…

Carlos feels far more vulnerable on serve.

His first serve percentage for this set must be back below 50%.

The body language from Alcaraz is weird! He looks spent.

I wonder if that final at Roland Garros took it out of him. I know he won at Queen's but in terms of performing on the big stage.

he played some excellent tennis at Queen's, I don't think he's spent

I wouldn't be surprised if this ended in a big upset He hasn't maintained any sort of consistency even at a low level.

somehow Ruse who seems physically quite ill and at one point was playing through a violent muscle spasm in one leg is pushing Keys all the way here
