What a great final it's set up to be now, will be a story either way. Raducanu getting her first title since the US Open, on home soil, or Vekic becoming the luckiest of losers two years after her heartbreaking Wimbledon SF defeat - will honestly be happy whichever way it goes!
 
Seriously impressed with Emma this week. Likely to get a lower seeding at Wimbledon off the back of this run. Let's hope that doesn’t mean another third round draw against the likes of Sabs or Swiatek. I wonder if she will still play Nottingham next week.

I think the Wimbledon seedings are already set, so she’ll be stuck unseeded. No one will want to play her in the first two rounds, though.

No, they use the rankings from the Monday of the week before the tournament starts for seedlings though the committee can tweak the seeds if they so choose to, the only grand slam that has done that in the past.

The entry system uses the rankings from 6 weeks before to establish the main draw and qualifying entries.
 
Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegmund are playing together in doubles at the Queens club, they haven't played a match though since Tuesday, their quarter final and semi final matches resulted in walkovers after Mboko and Jovic withdrew. 🫠
 
Not long to go now until the final begins. I imagine winning Queens for Emma would be very similar to when she won the US open. Hope she can pull it off.

Siegemund also made the quarter finals of the French doubles playing only one match. Easy money for her.

Did Annabel Croft really just say Raducanu has the best serve and volleys on the tour currently?
 
Annabel will say anything! I prefer watching the Dazn coverage to the BBC, better comms all round
 
If she goes her whole career only winning that one, people will definitely think it was a fluke.

She has reached 2 WTA finals this year, the first time since US open. She beat 2 top 20 players on the way to the Queens final. How is that a wasted opportunity?

A lot of players don't mature until their mid 20s. When did Sabalanka win her first slam? Mid 20s I reckon. Emma is doing just fine and will surely get another title before long. She has maintained a ranking between 20 and 50 for the best part of 2 years despite injuries In that period.
 
I just see potential with Emma. I do think she'll win another title, whether it's another grand slam remains to be seen.
 
I think DC’s point was more that if you make a WTA500 final and have Vekic, #76 at the time of the final, (as accomplished as she has been at times) as your opponent it constitutes a real opportunity to get a decent title when the alternatives would usually be the likes of Sabalenka, Gauff,Swiatek, Rybakina etc in a final at this level.

I thought Raducanu was hitting cleanly all week so definitely a positive week for her.
 
I do think the US Open should be classified as a fluke. A whole bunch of unique circumstances came together for her to win that slam.

Emma seems to be a 15 to 30 ranked fast court specialist who should be able to pick up a few more titles when all is said & done. Which is a fine career to have - USO 2021 just feels like as if someone like Magdalena Rybarikova had managed a slam early in her career before settling in to her true level of her best results coming in mid tier fast court events.
 
I think she takes way too much heat to be honest. the slam was a misnomer - otherwise her career is on a good track. she's just 23. titles will come if she keeps this up.
 
I agree. It's been twisted that it's somehow a bad thing that she won a grand slam. She got quite lucky, but so what? Someone had to win it and it happened to be her. The shit she gets for it is deeply unfair and mean spirited.
 
It's never a bad thing to win a slam of course, but I do think it completely arsed up her previously steady paced career trajectory of continuing improvement with some quality wins.

Ok fair, she didn't have to meet a top 5 player in the final, but the grass season is so short and unpredictable these days, with the top ranked players rarely winning a title on grass, that there will likely be many more opportunities for her on the grass to snatch a WTA 250 or 500 title. Also, let's be honest, Vekic's current ranking does not tell the full story. I think she has been top 20 and seemed to be top 40 consistently for a number of years (I could be wrong without checking), but it's hardly like Emma was playing a qualifier that had never made the top 100. Missed opportunity does Donna a huge disservice.
 
they are 31 (Emma) and 32 in the live rankings - when are Wimbledon seeds determined?
 
Emma has withdrawn from Nottingham, she was due to play Karolina Pliskova on Tuesday but probably not enough time to fully recover. She's still due to play Eastbourne though.
 
that makes the most sense! she might not make the seeds then but that's not necessarily a bad thing either.

Doing the hard work of beating two top 20 players and losing the final is exactly why it's a wasted opportunity.
Hopefully she builds on this result and start winning titles.
