The Admin Elections 2020 Results Thread

Oh come on!

That IS a stupid rule.

Just put it to another vote. Samuel v Zen based on the fact both came so close.

Sorry @Star I really feel like we shouldn’t just move on from this, and clearly there is some appetite for a third admin.

Indie and Octophone are both great, but having someone else totally safeguards the site. Especially if we are also looking at a succession plan further down the line.

I thought I'd have a funny quip, win or lose, but unfortunately I don't have a gif that expresses missing out by one vote in a tie.

To me it just seems a bit silly to lose the experience of someone who would be beneficial to the forum based off one vote. It’s a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Sorry, but it’s just not fair on me, Samuel or Zen to put our voters through this again. None of us managed to reached the required % and that is that.

I will say though that I do find it pretty suspicious that the vote went from being a top 5 changed to a ‘you must reach 50% of the vote’ after a discussion in the mod forum. When I log in as VoR later and read the mod forum I hope I’m not going
to be cross at what I read.

@SDF - failing to vote is how Brexit happened.

As I say that's literally how I voted. I deliberately didn't vote for any of the other three, however much I may like them or not. As a lurker/ occasional poster I'd say there's no need to rerun anything.

I don’t really like this 50% rule anyway. With the mod elections if there are a large number standing, there is a likelihood of hardly any getting 50%.

well that’s no use saying that is it?

How? I said it before the results were announced. But I do feel guilty for not voting.

Clearly there’s a lot of appetite for a third admin, and I think it’s only fair that we put it to a further vote so we have someone else who can support on admin stuff / learn from Indie and ultimately create a succession plan for the role.

Yes there is some, but not enough. This was all taken into account when it was decided how to vote. Anyway I'm done as I said, I'm handing over to admin. Just once again, we really wouldn't lose out a THING if they both/either of them became mods. And I know this because I've been admin before, and I know how much others (non mods) helped me!

Depends how many votes we get, doesn't it?

Almost the exact same rule the Tories put in place to stop unions being able to approve strike action, let's not forget!

Yes, if over 50% of people voted for 3 admins then there IS an appetite for a third admin.

The 50% rule totally makes sense when there are only 5 people standing. Have to make sure people aren’t getting voted in through lack of competition. Not about whether they deserve it or not, just better that way

There are not 23 people that didn't vote for any of them, that looked totally manipulative.
I think when you get three possible votes for five candidates, a majority not choosing to vote for a candidate is significant.

I don’t really feel like you can say 21 votes isn’t a substantial amount of people. “Not enough” being 1 or 2 people more votes?

Like who agreed this 50% rule? It’s stupid and I really feel like the sensible thing to do here is to put Samuel and Zen in a vote off.
