The Billie Ray Martin and Electribe 101 Chat Oasis

How can Mojo only give this album 3 stars? At the true moment of now, shining a spotlight on these songs again is making me think it actually upstages Deadlines (oh yes they do!)

Have the other guys even said a thing? Are they still in therapy?

Never a BAD TIME to revisit Electribe 101 on TOTP either :disco:

I love that BRM didn't even TRY to make it seem like she was singing live, seemingly purposefully being about a mile away from the MIC at all times :disco:

She said they've not really discussed it beyond a text. She's basically arranged it herself.

Oh you just know there was some backstage drama she had to emerge from that involved absolutely everyone (including the BBC) being utterly incompetent and unreasonable.

I'm lapsed into a coma over the Alternative drama of the bonus Deadline, but the whooshes on the track 5 Deadline are giving me visuals of Billie flushing her head down the toilet. What a lyric that would have made - maybe she can vocal pack it.

Knowing that people died before ever hearing this adds to the UPLIFTING DOWNBEAT GLORIOUS TRAUMA of the whole BRM experience.

I've never really watched her videos. I could never actually imagine her MOVING in any significant way beyond some seductive slinking. Yet she dances more than Haddaway.

I do find it astounding that anyone would choose to prefer other so-called singers (the names of whom I shall decline to mention so as to prevent temper tantrums :)) over BRM but I suspect she’s slightly too OTHER for mainstream tastes and also there’s a huge amount of subtext in that voice (the combination of rage and sadness which I think I mentioned elsewhere sums it up quite nicely). Which I suspect puts people off but obviously gets a :disco: from me

I know the original Deadline album vocals were hardly SUBTLE, but the new Space Oasis version vocal from 3.20 - 3.55ish sound like a ROCKET is about to launch from my SPEAKERS! :disco:

I'm also guessing the backing vocalists were not session singers, but Frau Grumps HERSELF helping reduce recording costs! :disco:

I remember times when it was just YOU, ME AND SHIRL banging to the WIND
I believe the BRM chat literally attracted @jyxz to the site.

I feel like my lockdown BRM sync listen, while sizzling, probably did little to expand her Moopy audience, but it at least enhanced BRM awareness.

Not sure if we’ve mentioned this before, but she sure goes off on this (which is a sans rap version rather than an instrumental version)

S’express was my introduction to ‘the voice’ and the album was also amongst my first clutch of cd’s. (Along with ‘Like a prayer’ and ‘Anything for you’) :eyes:

Anyway. Here’s her going off at key points.

WHATS THE POINT WHATS THE POINT?
