Merseyrail is known to be one of the best networks in the country and has been ever since the upgrade in the 80s. The trains were starting to look a little shabby but they got upgraded too recently. The underground metro in the city centre, small as it is with 5 stations that link across 3 separate lines, is clean, airy and really easy to navigate.

I think it’s about to hit a snag though. They’ve earmarked a new station for Liverpool Baltic, south of centre, where the creative and business hubs are booming, and will be very well received, but now with the new stadium opening the north of centre is going to be a massive bottleneck. They need a station in Vauxhall but they’re relying on an existing station which is above ground and lacks any ability to expand. They’re just adding a queuing system to the station entrance. Good luck with that!

Ah a station in Liverpool Baltic would be fab. We found out of all the things we wanted to do getting to the Baltic was a bit troublesome (we just ended up walking).
 
Yeah it’s a bit separated at the moment but compared to how it used to be when I was growing up, the centre feels way more connected now. When you know where you’re going, it’s a great place to just get out and walk (as long as there’s no storms from the Irish Sea!)
 
After using the Elizabeth line in this heat today, the fact that it is air conditioned is another massive boon. Plus the platforms and newer corridors tend to feel a lot more open and generally less oppressive than the older ones.

I was borderline dreading the thought of dealing with London in 30°C heat today, but other than the walk from Stratford Westfield to Abba Arena, it was actually almost pleasant.
 
Had the day in London today. Fancied going to Hampstead as I haven't been for years (not since I was poked by Denise Van Outen in fact, @Star), and switching from the Elizabeth line to the Northern at Tottenham Court Rd is quite the rude awakening. It's like being in a different country in a different decade.
 
I've been on the MERSEYRAIL again recently, it seems to be becoming a summer tradition, although no HOSPITALS involved this time THANKFULLY, and barring one pair of INEBRIATED NE'ER DO WELLS it is rather pleasant

I didn't know JAMES STREET had LIFTS. We were waiting to go UP and everytime the doors were about to close someone else got in and started the doors closing all over again. Everyone REMAINED QUITE CALM. I can only imagine the SCENES if it were LONDON
 
I had to use the central line a few times last week. It really does feel like you’ve reached the earth’s core down there
 
I'd forgotten how lovely Hampstead is. I went to see Erno Goldfinger's house - it wasn't open today but I knew that. Thought I'd have a look at the outside of it and then decide if it's likely worth the admission fee another time. Then I just wandered the back streets for a couple of hours. It was lovely being in a part of London that isn't flat.
 
Yeah Hampstead, Belsize Park and Highgate are all stunning. I was there last Monday having a mooch round, picnicking in the heath and getting some serious steps in climbing those roads. And so many gorgeous pubs. There aren’t many places in London that can give you a village feel. Blackheath maybe although I haven’t been there in a long time.
 
Mind you, I did hear someone boasting that the branch of Gail's in Hampstead is the original one.
 
My aunt lives in Hampstead

I used to hope she'd leave me her RESIDENCE but then she remarried and had lots of children at the age of about 60 :bruised:
 
My mate lives in Hampstead and I'm SICK WITH ENVY about it. Although I think Rita Ora lives down the road from him so there are downsides.
 
How the fuck does she afford Hampstead? Did she marry into money as well?
